Overview

The Haas VF-2SSYT is the Super-Speed, extended-Y member of the VF-2 family: a 40-taper vertical machining center with 30 × 20 × 20 in (762 × 508 × 508 mm) of travel, a 12,000 rpm spindle and 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min) rapids. It combines the two changes Haas offers separately on this frame. The VF-2SS brings the faster spindle, rapids and side-mount tool changer but keeps 16 in (406 mm) of Y. The VF-2YT brings 20 in (508 mm) of Y but keeps the 8,100 rpm spindle. The SSYT has both.

The extra Y travel comes with a wider table, 36 × 18 in (914 × 457 mm) against the 36 × 14 in (914 × 356 mm) of the VF-2SS, so fixtures can sit two deep rather than in a single row. The trade is table load. This machine is rated for 1,500 lb (680 kg) evenly distributed, half the 3,000 lb (1,361 kg) of the standard VF-2, which matters once a rotary table and its workholding go on.

The inline direct-drive spindle is rated 30 hp (22.4 kW) and 90 ft-lbf (122 N·m) at 2,000 rpm. That is the same rating as the 8,100 rpm VF-2, so the extra speed is there for small tools and aluminium rather than for heavier cuts.
