Overview

The Accuway UMS-2450 is a two-spindle vertical machining center for long, narrow work. One X axis carries both heads along 2,510 mm (98.8 in), over a table 2,300 x 180 mm (90.6 x 7.1 in). Accuway files it under special customized machines, and the proportions show why: this is a machine for profiles, rails and extrusions, not for general milling.

Each head has its own short Y and Z. The Y1/Y2 and Z1/Z2 rows both read 100/100 mm (3.9/3.9 in), so the spindles can be positioned independently across the width and in depth while travelling together in X. Two identical features, or two parts, can be cut in one pass.

The spindles are BT30 with direct drive, 5,000 rpm and 3.7/5.5 kW (5.0/7.4 hp) each, continuous and 30 min. The options list offers upgrades to a 10,000 rpm spindle, or to 12,000 rpm and 15,000 rpm with a different motor, all direct drive. For aluminium profiles those upgrades are the ones to ask about.

Tool magazine capacity is listed as 2 and maximum tool length as 100 mm (3.9 in). With so few tools, the machine suits repeated drilling, slotting and milling operations more than parts needing many cutters. Guideways are linear, cutting feed rate is 12 m/min (472 in/min), and the table lists no rapid traverse figure. A chain type chip conveyor with chip cart is standard. Weight is 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).
