Overview
A 2-step gearbox is the listed drive system of the Accuway UM-160, and Gear box appears among its standard accessories. That, plus box guideways, sets it apart from the belt-drive W machines below it. It is a 15,000 kg (33,069 lb) BT50 vertical machining center with travels of 1,600 mm (63.0 in), 850 mm (33.5 in) and 850 mm (33.5 in).
The gearbox matters because the motor rating is not larger than on the smaller models: 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp), continuous and 30 min, at up to 6,000 rpm. Two mechanical ranges let that power arrive as torque at low spindle speed, which is where big face mills, shell mills and large drills in steel do their work.
Rapid traverse is 15 m/min (591 in/min) on each axis. On box ways, with 50/50/50 mm (2.0/2.0/2.0 in) ball screws and 4/4/7 kW feed motors, the machine is built to push, not to sprint. Cutting feed rate is 12 m/min (472 in/min).
