Overview
With 625 mm (24.6 in) of Z travel the Accuway UL-20 doubles the turning length of the UL-15 to 600 mm (23.6 in). The rest of the machine is carried over: box ways, 175 mm (6.9 in) of X travel, a 280 mm (11.0 in) turning diameter and an 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp) spindle.
At that length the tailstock starts to earn its place. Its body travels 400 mm (15.7 in) and the quill 150 mm (5.9 in), nearly twice the quill stroke of the UL-15, with a 70 mm (2.8 in) quill on an MT#4 taper. Shafts of half a metre can be turned between chuck and centre.
How does it sit against the UT-200, the slant-bed machine of similar size in Accuway's range? The UL-20 is the lighter and narrower of the two, at 3,350 kg (7,385 lb) and 1.5 m wide, with a comparable turning envelope. Its spindle list stops at A2-6 with a 65 mm (2.6 in) bar, where the UT-200 goes on to A2-8.
Turret stations number 8, 10 or 12 depending on the spindle column, with BOT tooling. Rapid traverse is 20 m/min (787 in/min) in X and Z. Bar feeder, parts catcher, loader interface and gantry loader system are optional, as is a tool setter. The control is a FANUC 0i-T with a 10.4" Colored LCD monitor.
