Overview
The Sodick AL800P is a large-table wire EDM built for area rather than height: 31.50 in (800 mm) of X and 23.62 in (600 mm) of Y, but only 9.84 in (250 mm) of Z. It accepts a plate of up to 49.21 in × 40.16 in × 9.45 in (1250 × 1020 × 240 mm) weighing up to 3,307 lb (1500 kg), inside a 55.51 in × 43.70 in (1410 × 1110 mm) work tank.
Those proportions point at progressive die plates, stripper plates, large punch holders and multi-cavity mold plates, where a long, wide part carries many openings but is rarely more than a few inches thick. Several separate profiles can be cut across one plate without moving it, which saves the re-indicating a smaller machine would need.
Buyers comparing it with the AL800G should look closely at Z. The AL800G has the same 800 × 600 mm of X/Y but 500 mm of Z, and the ALN800G also lists 19.69 in (500 mm). If any job involves blocks thicker than 240 mm, the AL800P cannot take it, however much table area is left.
