Overview

The YCM TC-46M/3200 adds milling to YCM's longest heavy lathe. A 12-station radial power turret with BMT85 tooling and a C axis on the main spindle sit on a bed that turns ø730 mm (ø28.74 in) over 3,111 mm (122.48 in).

The live tool drive is in a different class from the small turn-mill lathes. Torque is 16.24 kgf-m (117.45 lb-ft) over a speed range of 100~3,000 rpm, and YCM gives the maximum live tool power as 15/18.5/22 kW. That is enough for real milling: keyways in large shafts, flats, splines by milling, and big cross-drilled and tapped holes. The C axis turns at 50 rpm for positioning and contouring.

On a part this size the gain is in handling. A three-metre shaft weighing a tonne or more is slow and risky to move to a boring mill for its keyways and bolt holes; doing them in the lathe removes a crane lift and a second alignment.

Mounting the power turret costs a little envelope against the two-axis TC-46/3200, which turns ø750 mm (ø29.53 in) over 3,200 mm (125.98 in). X travel is 415 mm, printed as 365+50, and the swing over the turret is ø890 mm (ø35.04 in). The gearhead spindle and its 30/37 kW (40/50 HP) motor are carried over, with the quill and gearbox oil-cooled. The tailstock quill stroke is 3,015 mm (118.7 in), rapids are 16 m/min (629.92 ipm) in X and 12 m/min (472.44 ipm) in Z, and the machine weighs 15,500 kg (34,171 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 12-station radial power turret with BMT85 tooling
  • Live tool torque of 16.24 kgf-m (117.45 lb-ft) at 100~3,000 rpm
  • C axis on the main spindle at 50 rpm
  • 3,111 mm (122.48 in) turning length with milling in the same setup
  • 30/37 kW (40/50 HP) gearhead spindle with oil-cooled quill and gearbox

Limitations

  • Turning diameter is ø730 mm (ø28.74 in), slightly less than the two-axis model
  • No Y axis is listed, so milling is on the centreline or by C-axis interpolation
  • Z rapid is 12 m/min (472.44 ipm)
  • Machine weight is 15,500 kg (34,171 lb)

Best For

Long heavy shafts with keyways, flats and bolt holes Large parts that are costly to move between a lathe and a mill Rolls and rotors needing drilled and tapped end features

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What live tooling does the TC-46M/3200 have?

A radial power turret with 12 stations and the BMT85 tooling system, servo rotated and hydraulically clamped. Live tool speed is 100~3,000 rpm and torque is 16.24 kgf-m (117.45 lb-ft). YCM gives the live tool power as 15/18.5/22 kW.

02 How does it differ from the TC-46/3200?

The TC-46/3200 is a two-axis lathe with a 10-station servo turret, ø750 mm (ø29.53 in) turning diameter and 3,200 mm (125.98 in) turning length. The TC-46M/3200 has a power turret and C axis, and turns ø730 mm (ø28.74 in) over 3,111 mm (122.48 in).

03 What are the spindle figures?

A gearhead spindle on an A2-11 nose with a 30/37 kW (40/50 HP) motor. Speed is 1,800 rpm with the 15" chuck, 1,600 rpm with 18" and 1,200 rpm with 21". The through hole is ø130 mm (ø5.12 in) and the C-axis speed is 50 rpm.

04 What supports the far end of the workpiece?

A programmable tailstock with an MT-5 quill and a stroke of 3,015 mm (118.7 in). In the TC-46 family the tailstock clamps to the guideways with dual cylinders so that it does not skid during machining.
