Overview

The YCM NTC-2000LY is a Y-axis turning center with an 8" chuck, a 5,000 rpm spindle and a BMT55 live-tool turret. It turns parts up to ø320 mm (ø12.6 in) in diameter and 570 mm (22.44 in) in length, and its Y axis is listed as 90 mm, split 50 above and 40 below centre.

It is the single-spindle, tailstock version of the NTC-2000 pair. The sibling NTC-2000LSY replaces the tailstock with a sub-spindle; this model keeps an MT-4 quill for shaft work. YCM states that the standard tailstock is manual, with programmable and servo tailstocks available. The quill stroke row prints two values, 240/570 mm (9.45/22.44 in), and the weight row does the same, 5,020/5,420 kg (11,067/11,949 lb), without labelling the variants.

Speed is a feature of the design. Rapids are 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in Z, quicker than YCM's GT lathes, although the X and Z slides are boxways with wear-resistant pads. The spindle motor row gives 18.5/22/30 kW (25/30/40 HP), strong for an 8" machine.

The radial power turret has 12 stations, servo rotation and hydraulic clamping. Live tools run from 100 to 4,000 rpm with 3.57 kgf-m (25.82 lb-ft). YCM gives the spindle indexing accuracy for milling as 0.001°. The bed is a one-piece 30° slant casting, the spindle bore is ø80 mm (ø3.15 in) and the draw bar hole ø66 mm (ø2.6 in).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Y axis of 90 mm (50/-40) with a 12-station BMT55 power turret
  • Rapids of 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in Z
  • Spindle motor of 18.5/22/30 kW (25/30/40 HP) at up to 5,000 rpm
  • Live tools at 100~4,000 rpm with 3.57 kgf-m (25.82 lb-ft)
  • Tailstock retained, with programmable and servo versions available

Limitations

  • The standard tailstock is manual
  • No sub-spindle; back-end work needs a second operation or the NTC-2000LSY
  • Y travel below centre is 40 mm
  • Two unlabelled values are printed for quill stroke and machine weight

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the Y-axis travel of the NTC-2000LY?

The table lists 90 mm, given as 50/-40. Y rapid traverse is 10 m/min (394 ipm) and Y cutting feed is 1~10,000 mm/min (0.04~394 ipm). YCM describes an orthogonal Y axis integrated with the live tooling turret.

02 What turret and live tools does it have?

A radial power turret with servo rotation and hydraulic clamping, 12 stations and BMT55 tooling. Live tool speed is 100~4,000 rpm and torque is 3.57 kgf-m (25.82 lb-ft).

03 How does it differ from the NTC-2000LSY?

The NTC-2000LSY adds a sub-spindle with a 6" chuck, 6,000 rpm and a 7.5/11 kW (10/15 HP) motor on a B axis with 650 mm (25.59 in) of travel, and weighs 6,180 kg (13,624 lb). The NTC-2000LY has a tailstock instead.

04 What are the main spindle figures?

The spindle runs to 5,000 rpm on an A2-6 nose with an 8" chuck. The motor row reads 18.5/22/30 kW (25/30/40 HP). The spindle bore is ø80 mm (ø3.15 in) and the hole through the draw bar is ø66 mm (ø2.6 in).
