Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Vollmer QS 860 / QSF 860 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Vollmer QS 860 / QSF 860 are disc erosion machines for PCD circular saw blades. Their diamond tips are eroded with a rotating electrode, not ground. The QS 860 works on the tooth tops and the QSF 860 on the sides, for blades from 80 to 860 mm (3.1 to 33.9 in).
They are the erosion counterparts of Vollmer's CS and CSF sharpeners and share that platform: a polymer concrete monoblock, measuring systems for automatic set-up, and operation by touch screen or keypad. The power source is Vollmer's Vpulse EDM erosion generator. The maker gives the kinematics as 8-axis or 9-axis.
Erosion is slow next to grinding, and the wheel speeds show it. The tooth top eroding wheel, 125 to 127 mm (4.9 to 5.0 in), turns at max. 10 m/s. The side wheels, 75 to 125 mm (3.0 to 4.9 in), turn at max. 5 m/s. An additional unit on the QS 860 carries a smaller wheel of 35 to 60 mm (1.4 to 2.4 in). Cutting edge length is up to 15 mm (0.59 in) on both machines, which fits the short PCD tips used on panel-sizing and scoring blades.
The angle table is brief. Clearance angle on the QS 860 is +5° to +45° with bevels on the tooth top up to 60°. On the QSF 860, tangential clearance is 0° to +8° and radial clearance -10° (-20°) to +6°. No tooth face row appears for either machine. Connected load is approx. 5.0 kVA and approx. 7.0 kVA, and each needs 6 bar (87 psi) of air. Weights are approx. 2,950 kg (6,504 lb) and approx. 2,850 kg (6,283 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Purpose-built for PCD saw blades, with Vollmer's Vpulse EDM erosion generator on both machines
- Covers blades from 80 to 860 mm (3.1 to 33.9 in) and up to 14 mm (0.55 in) thick
- Measuring systems for fully automated set-up and work processes
- Can be combined with the ND handling system, with up to three machines in one cell
- Tooth pitches up to 180 mm (7.1 in) are in the table
Limitations
- Top and side erosion are on separate machines
- Cutting edge length is limited to 15 mm (0.59 in)
- The table lists no tooth face machining for either machine
- The QSF 860 needs approx. 7.0 kVA against approx. 5.0 kVA for the QS 860

Frequently Asked Questions
01
They erode the cutting edges of PCD-tipped circular saw blades with rotating disc electrodes. In the specification table the QS 860 has the tooth top eroding wheel, the clearance angle range of +5° to +45° and bevels up to 60°, and the QSF 860 has the side eroding wheel with tangential and radial clearance angles.
02
Outside diameters from 80 to 860 mm (3.1 to 33.9 in), bores from 10 mm (0.39 in), blade thickness up to 14 mm (0.55 in) and tooth pitch up to 180 mm (7.1 in). The cutting edge length that can be eroded is up to 15 mm (0.59 in).
03
Same platform, different process. The CS 860 / CSF 860 grinds carbide-tipped blades, with wheel speeds up to 57 m/s on the tooth face. The QS and QSF erode PCD at max. 10 m/s and max. 5 m/s. Both pairs take 80 to 860 mm (3.1 to 33.9 in) blades and weigh approx. 2,950 kg (6,504 lb) and approx. 2,850 kg (6,283 lb).
04
On the QS 860, a tooth top wheel of 125 to 127 mm (4.9 to 5.0 in) with a 32 mm (1.3 in) bore, plus an additional unit with a wheel of 35 to 60 mm (1.4 to 2.4 in), both at max. 10 m/s. On the QSF 860, side wheels of 75 to 125 mm (3.0 to 4.9 in) at max. 5 m/s.
