Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Vollmer CP 650 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Vollmer CP 650 is the smallest of Vollmer's CNC machines for sharpening tooth faces and tooth tops on carbide-tipped circular saw blades. It takes blades from 80 to 650 mm (3.1 to 25.6 in) and weighs approx. 900 kg (1,984 lb), about half of what the CHC 840 / CHC 1300 weighs in its smaller frame at approx. 1,660 kg (3,660 lb).
Small does not mean manual. The machine has four CNC-controlled axes (B1, Z1, X1, V1), motor-driven hook and clearance angle adjustment and oscillation grinding as standard. It will grind group toothing and saws with an axial face angle in one cycle. What the buyer gives up against the CH machines is range: blade thickness to 5 mm (0.20 in), hook angle from -10° to +30°, tooth pitch to 100 mm (3.9 in) with no larger option in the table, and a single 0.7 kW (0.9 hp) grinding drive.
For a joinery sharpening shop those limits rarely bite. Panel saw blades, scoring blades and mitre saw blades fall well inside 650 mm. A sawmill is a different matter, since its blades are thicker and its pitches longer.
Vollmer divides the cabinet into three zones, for electrics, machine and operator, to keep grinding dust and coolant away from the mechanics and electrics. Full enclosure is standard. Programming is on a 10-inch LCD colour display with the multifunction handwheel, and up to 4000 programs can be stored. The wheel is 125 mm (4.9 in) running at approx. 27 m/s, the coolant tank holds approx. 125 l and the connected load is approx. 2.2 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Compact and light at approx. 900 kg (1,984 lb), with a full enclosure as standard
- Four CNC-controlled axes (B1, Z1, X1, V1) with motor-driven hook and clearance angle adjustment
- Oscillation grinding is standard
- Separated electrical compartment, machine compartment and operating area
- Tooth pitch is sensed by the feed pawl, so it is not entered
Limitations
- Maximum blade diameter of 650 mm (25.6 in)
- Blade thickness limited to 5 mm (0.20 in)
- Hook angle range of -10° to +30° excludes strongly negative teeth
- No hollow face grinding or bevel on the negative tooth face appears in the table
- The multiple surface program is optional

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Carbide-tipped circular saw blades from 80 to 650 mm (3.1 to 25.6 in) in outside diameter, with a bore from 10 mm (0.39 in), a blade thickness of up to 5 mm (0.20 in) and a tooth pitch of up to 100 mm (3.9 in). It grinds tooth faces and tooth tops.
02
Hook angle from -10° to +30° and clearance angle from +5° to 45°. Bevel grinding is up to 45° on the tooth top and up to 15° on the positive tooth face. Grinding paths are up to 20 mm (0.79 in) for the hook angle and up to 24 mm (0.94 in) for the clearance angle.
03
It is the smaller machine with a narrower range. The CP 650 ends at 650 mm (25.6 in) and 5 mm (0.20 in) blade thickness, and its hook angle goes to +30°. The CHC 840 / CHC 1300 takes blades up to 8 mm (0.31 in) thick, reaches +40° and offers a 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) drive as an option. Both use four CNC axes and a 125 mm (4.9 in) wheel.
04
Yes, the CPF 650. It grinds the side angles of blades in the same 80 to 650 mm (3.1 to 25.6 in) range and also weighs approx. 900 kg (1,984 lb), so the two can stand as a pair in a small sharpening shop.
