Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Vollmer CHC 840 / CHC 1300 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Vollmer CHC 840 / CHC 1300 is a workshop sharpening machine for the tooth faces and tooth tops of carbide-tipped circular saw blades. It is one design in two sizes: the CHC 840 takes blades from 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in), the CHC 1300 from 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in). Vollmer aims it at blades for wood, aluminium and plastic.
Four CNC axes (B1, Z1, X1, V1) do the grinding, and the hook and clearance angles are adjusted by motor, so the switch from face to top grinding needs no handwork. Hook angle runs from -10° to +40° and clearance angle from +5° to 45°. That positive-leaning range is the clearest sign of what the machine is for. Strongly negative teeth for metal cutting sit outside it; the CHP 840 / CHP 1300 extends the hook angle to -30° for that work.
The standard grinding drive is 0.7 kW (0.9 hp) with a wheel speed of approx. 27 m/s. A 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) drive with variable speed is optional. Oscillation grinding is standard, which helps when a replaced tip has to be brought down to the height of its neighbours in one cycle. Blades can be up to 8 mm (0.31 in) thick with a cutting width to 12 mm (0.47 in).
The choice between the two sizes is about more than diameter. Workpiece weight is max. 30 kg (66 lb) on the CHC 840 and max. 80 kg (176 lb) on the CHC 1300, and machine weight goes from approx. 1,660 kg (3,660 lb) to approx. 1,850 kg (4,078 lb). Both are fully enclosed, hydraulic-free and run from approx. 2.2 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two diameter ranges on one design: 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in) or 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in)
- Motor-driven hook and clearance angle adjustment for the change from face to top grinding
- Oscillation grinding is standard for high removal on repaired teeth
- Feed pawl sensor system removes the need to enter the tooth pitch
- Hydraulic-free build with automatic central lubrication in the basic equipment
Limitations
- Hook angle stops at -10°, so negative-hook metal-cutting teeth are out of range
- No bevel on a negative tooth face is listed, unlike on the CHP 840 / CHP 1300
- Tooth pitches above 100 mm (3.9 in) need the optional second feed pawl
- Hollow face grinding requires an optional device
- The standard 0.7 kW (0.9 hp) drive is the smaller of the two offered

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The diameter range and what follows from it. The CHC 840 takes blades from 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in) and up to 30 kg (66 lb); the CHC 1300 takes 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in) and up to 80 kg (176 lb). Machine weight is approx. 1,660 kg (3,660 lb) against approx. 1,850 kg (4,078 lb). The grinding figures are identical.
02
Faces and tops with hook angles from -10° to +40° and clearance angles from +5° to 45°. Bevel grinding is up to 45° on the tooth top and up to 15° on the positive tooth face. Vollmer says saws with axial angle and group toothing can be machined in one cycle. Hollow faces from -10° to +30° need the optional grinding device.
03
Through a control panel with a 10-inch LCD colour display and a multifunction handwheel that selects and moves the axes and acts as a potentiometer for speed in automatic mode. The hook and clearance angles are detected digitally and adjusted automatically. Up to 4000 programs can be stored.

The standard tooth pitch limit is 100 mm (3.9 in). An optional second feed pawl raises it to 180 mm (7.1 in). Vollmer notes that the diagonally integrated feed pawl with pneumatic lift lets chipper segments be machined, and the blade clamp opens wide for saws with a collar or reinforcing ring.
