Overview
Fifteen tonnes on a five-metre box way table is the measure of the Vision Wide VF-5000. The table is 5,200x2,050 mm (204.7x80.7 in), rated for 15,000 kg (33,069 lb), with 5,200 mm (204.7 in) of X travel and 2,300 mm (90.6 in) of Y.
It is the longest machine the maker builds with box ways on every axis. The VB series stops at the VB-4020, which has 4,100 mm (161.4 in) of X and carries 12,000 kg (26,455 lb). Past that length, a buyer who wants sliding ways and not linear guides is looking at the VF.
What kind of work asks for that? Deep, interrupted cuts in tough material over a long part: forging dies, rolling-mill and press components, heavy fabricated frames with hard weld seams. In such cuts the damping of a scraped box way does more for tool life than extra axis speed would for cycle time.
The axis speeds are accordingly modest: 10 m/min in X, 12 m/min in Y and Z, and 1-7,000 mm/min in the cut. The spindle is a 4,000 rpm two-step gear type on 18.5/22 kW (24.8/29.5 hp), with larger motors optional. Z travel is 920 mm, or 1,020 mm.
