Overview

The head of the Vision Wide MB-2020 is carried by twin hydraulic cylinders backed by a pressured nitrogen accumulator. Vision Wide says the cylinders are self-aligning and that the balancing force is set by an adjustable pressure valve.

On a box way Z axis the counterbalance does more than save the motor. Without it, the full weight of the head and gearbox would bear on the ball screw and load one face of the ways, and fine downward feeds would be jerky. Balanced, the head moves as readily up as down, which is what the maker means by smooth and accurate feeding. Self-aligning cylinders do not side-load the slide if the mounts are a little out, and an adjustable valve lets the force be reset when a heavier head or attachment is fitted.

The MB-2020 is the square model of the series: 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in both X and Y, with a 2,000×1,700 mm (78.7×66.9 in) table for 9,000 kg (19,841 lb). Z travel is 800 mm, or 1,020 mm as an option.

Rapids are 15 m/min on all axes. The spindle is geared, 4,000 rpm as standard, and the motor 18.5/22 kW (24.8/29.5 hp).
