Overview

The Trumpf TruLaser Cell Series 1000 is a flexible beam guidance system designed for integration into continuous production lines for welding seams on strips, tubes, and profiles. Unlike standalone laser cutting or welding cells, the TruLaser Cell 1000 is an inline system that mounts directly into a tube mill, roll forming line, or strip processing line to perform continuous laser welding at production speeds.

The TruLaser Cell 1100 provides axis travel of 300/500 mm on X and Z axes, with a B-axis range of +/-100 degrees and a Q-axis (position correction) of +/-25 mm. Maximum speeds reach 30 m/min on X and Z axes with 3 m/min on the Q correction axis. Axis acceleration is 1.5 m/s2. Positioning accuracy is 0.1 mm on linear axes and 0.015 degrees on the rotary B-axis.

Two laser source categories are available. CO2 lasers range from 3,200 W to 15,000 W for high-power continuous welding applications. Solid-state options include TruDiode and TruDisk lasers from 2,000 W to 8,000 W. The solid-state sources offer lower operating costs and fiber-delivered beams, while CO2 provides higher power levels for demanding thick-section continuous welding.

The system processes steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals from a tenth of a millimeter up to several millimeters thick. Optional enhancements include linear or swivel-axis welding optics and SeamLine sensor systems for automatic seam detection and tracking. SeamLine is particularly important in tube welding where the seam position varies as strip material feeds through the forming section.

This is a production-focused inline system, not a standalone job shop machine. It is sold as part of a complete tube mill or roll forming line integration, typically through OEM partnerships between Trumpf and tube mill manufacturers.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Designed for inline integration into tube mills and roll forming lines for continuous production laser welding
  • CO2 laser options up to 15,000 W handle the most demanding thick-section continuous welding applications
  • SeamLine sensor system provides automatic seam detection and tracking for reliable welding on varying strip material
  • Solid-state laser options (TruDiode, TruDisk) deliver lower operating costs with fiber-delivered beams
  • Q-axis position correction compensates for seam position variation in real time during continuous processing
  • Processes the full range of metals from thin foil (0.1 mm) to thick-section steel across diverse tube and profile applications

Limitations

  • Not a standalone machine -- requires integration into a tube mill or roll forming line, limiting flexibility
  • CO2 laser options have higher operating costs and maintenance requirements than solid-state alternatives
  • 0.1 mm positioning accuracy is coarser than standalone laser welding cells, acceptable for tube welding but not precision assemblies
  • System complexity requires Trumpf or OEM integration support for installation and commissioning

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is the TruLaser Cell 1000 a standalone machine?

No. It is a beam guidance system designed for integration into continuous production lines -- tube mills, roll forming lines, and strip processing equipment. It is not used as a standalone laser welding station.

02 What is the SeamLine sensor?

SeamLine is an optional sensor system that detects and tracks the seam position in real time during continuous welding. This is essential in tube welding where the strip seam position varies as material feeds through the forming section. SeamLine adjusts the laser beam position to follow the seam automatically.

03 When should I choose CO2 vs solid-state laser?

CO2 lasers provide higher power (up to 15,000 W) for thick-section welding and certain material combinations where CO2 wavelength coupling is advantageous. Solid-state (TruDiode, TruDisk) offers lower operating costs, fiber delivery, and simpler beam routing. Most new installations favor solid-state unless specific CO2 advantages are required.

04 What line speeds can the system support?

The system supports axis speeds up to 30 m/min, which matches typical tube mill and roll forming production speeds. Actual welding speed depends on material thickness, joint configuration, and laser power. The Q-axis correction system operates at 3 m/min to track seam position during production.
