How much does the TRAK TRL 1630RX cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the TRAK TRL 1630RX that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The TRAK TRL 1630RX is a CNC lathe with 16 in (406 mm) of swing over the bed and 30 in (762 mm) between centers, controlled by the ProtoTRAK RLX CNC. At 2,750 lbs (1,247 kg) it is the lightest of three TRL lathes on this control, below the TRL 1845RX at 3,285 lbs (1,490 kg) and the TRL 2470RX at 6,500 lbs (2,948 kg).
Its spindle works in one range, 150 - 2,500 rpm, from a 7.5 hp (5.6 kW) motor with a dynamic brake. Nothing has to be selected between a heavy cut and a finishing pass, but the floor is 150 rpm. The TRL 1845RX reaches down to 80 rpm in its low range, which leaves more room for large-diameter facing and coarse threads.
Swing over the cross slide is 8.6 in (218 mm), about half the swing over the bed, and that is the figure that governs any part the carriage must pass under. Cross-slide travel is 8.5 in (216 mm). The D1-6 spindle nose has a 2.12 in (54 mm) bore and an MT#6 taper, on a front bearing 3.15 in (80 mm) in diameter. At the other end, the tailstock quill is 2.36 in (60 mm) across, MT#4, with 5.75 in (146 mm) of travel.
Tooling is on the small side. Maximum tool section is 3/4 in, and the turret, in 8-position or 4-position form with 3/4 in shanks, is optional. Rapids are 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) on Z and 200 ipm (5.1 m/min) on X. The bed is 12.6 in (320 mm) wide with way surfaces at 400-450 HB, and the headstock runs in an oil bath holding 1.5 gal. The lathe needs 200V to 240V three-phase at 34.5A full load and occupies 82 x 45 x 72 in (2,083 x 1,143 x 1,829 mm).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- One spindle range, 150 - 2,500 rpm, so no range change between roughing and finishing
- Lighter than the TRL 1845RX and TRL 2470RX: 2,750 lbs (1,247 kg) and 82 x 45 x 72 in (2,083 x 1,143 x 1,829 mm)
- D1-6 spindle nose with a 2.12 in (54 mm) bore and MT#6 taper
- Tailstock quill of 2.36 in (60 mm) diameter with 5.75 in (146 mm) of travel and an MT#4 taper
- Optional 8-position or 4-position turret for 3/4 in shank tools
Limitations
- Minimum spindle speed is 150 rpm; the TRL 1845RX goes down to 80 rpm in its low range
- Maximum tool section is 3/4 in, where the TRL 1845RX takes 1 in (25 mm)
- The turret is an option, not part of the base lathe
- Swing over the cross slide is 8.6 in (218 mm), about half the 16 in (406 mm) swing over the bed
- 7.5 hp (5.6 kW) is less than the 10 hp (7.5 kW) of the TRL 1845RX or the 15 hp (11.2 kW) of the TRL 2470RX

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Swing over the bed is 16 in (406 mm) and swing over the cross slide is 8.6 in (218 mm), with 30 in (762 mm) between centers and a center height of 8 in (203 mm). Stock that has to pass through the headstock is limited by the 2.12 in (54 mm) spindle bore.
02
150 - 2,500 rpm in a single range, driven by a 7.5 hp (5.6 kW) motor with a dynamic brake. The larger TRL 1845RX splits its speeds into two ranges, 80 - 850 rpm and 250 - 2,500 rpm, on a 10 hp (7.5 kW) motor.
03
A turret is listed as an option, in 8-position or 4-position form, taking 3/4 in shank tools. The maximum tool section for the lathe is also 3/4 in, so existing tooling of that size carries over either way.
04
200V to 240V three-phase, 60 Hz, at 34.5A full load. The lathe measures 82 x 45 x 72 in (2,083 x 1,143 x 1,829 mm) and weighs 2,750 lbs (1,247 kg). Coolant capacity is 8 gal (30 L).
05
The quill is 2.36 in (60 mm) in diameter with an MT#4 taper and 5.75 in (146 mm) of travel. The spindle end is MT#6 in a D1-6 nose, so centers for the two ends are different sizes.
