Overview

The Mazak MEGA TURN 600 is a mid-range vertical turning center (VTL) designed for machining workpieces up to 630 mm (24.8 in) in diameter with a maximum machining height of 550 mm (21.65 in). Positioned between the MEGA TURN 500 and the massive MEGA TURN 900, the 600 provides the optimal balance of turning capacity, torque, and floor space for shops machining medium-to-large diameter parts.

The MEGA TURN 600 runs chuck sizes from 18 to 24 inches, providing secure workholding for heavy castings, forgings, and flanges. The main spindle delivers 30 kW (40 hp) at up to 1,500 RPM with approximately 2,800 Nm (2,065 ft-lb) of torque, enabling aggressive roughing in steel, stainless, and cast iron at the large diameters this machine targets. Maximum workpiece weight capacity is approximately 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

The vertical spindle orientation provides the same inherent advantages as other VTLs: gravity-assisted part loading for improved concentricity, excellent chip evacuation, and compact floor space relative to horizontal lathes with equivalent swing. The open-top design provides excellent crane access for loading and unloading heavy parts.

Available in standard (600) and short-bed (600S) configurations, the MEGA TURN 600 uses a 12-station turret for standard turning operations. MAZATROL SmoothG provides conversational programming for contour turning, threading, and grooving operations.
