How much does the TRAK TRL 2470RX cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the TRAK TRL 2470RX that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The TRAK TRL 2470RX is the large-bore member of TRAK's ProtoTRAK RLX CNC lathes: a 4.09 in (104 mm) hole through a D1-8 spindle, 24 in (610 mm) of swing over the bed and 70 in (1,778 mm) between centers.
That bore is the reason to choose it. The TRL 1845RX passes 2.36 in (60 mm) and the TRL 1630RX 2.12 in (54 mm), so pipe, tube and heavy bar that must run through the headstock goes on this machine or not at all. The spindle rides on a 5.51 in (140 mm) front bearing and has an MT#8 taper, with MT#5 in a reduction sleeve.
Speed is traded for size. The two ranges are 40 - 670 rpm and 100 - 1,800 rpm, driven by a 15 hp (11.2 kW) motor with a dynamic brake. A 40 rpm bottom end suits diameters close to the swing. An 1,800 rpm top end is slow for small diameters, where the TRL 1845RX still reaches 2,500 rpm.
The carriage clears 14.5 in (368 mm) over the cross slide, and cross-slide travel is 12.5 in (318 mm). The tailstock is scaled to match: a 3.5 in (89 mm) quill, MT#5, with 8.5 in (216 mm) of travel. Maximum tool section is 1 in (25 mm), and the optional 8-position or 4-position turret takes 1 in shanks.
Plan the installation early. The lathe is 129 x 84 x 79 in (3,277 x 2,134 x 2,007 mm), weighs 6,500 lbs (2,948 kg) and needs 200V to 240V three-phase at 54.7A full load. The headstock oil bath holds 5.3 gal, or 6.3 gal with the oil cooler option, and coolant capacity is 15 gal (57 L).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 4.09 in (104 mm) spindle bore on a D1-8 nose, for pipe and bar that will not pass a smaller headstock
- 70 in (1,778 mm) between centers and 24 in (610 mm) of swing over the bed
- 15 hp (11.2 kW) spindle motor with a low range of 40 - 670 rpm for large diameters
- 14.5 in (368 mm) of swing over the cross slide
- Tailstock quill 3.5 in (89 mm) in diameter, MT#5, with 8.5 in (216 mm) of travel
- Headstock oil cooler is available as an option, raising oil capacity from 5.3 gal to 6.3 gal
Limitations
- Top speed is 1,800 rpm, against 2,500 rpm on the TRL 1845RX and TRL 1630RX
- Needs 54.7A full load at 200V to 240V three-phase
- 129 x 84 x 79 in (3,277 x 2,134 x 2,007 mm) and 6,500 lbs (2,948 kg) to place and rig
- The turret and the headstock oil cooler are both options
- Rapids are 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) on Z and 200 ipm (5.1 m/min) on X, a long traverse over 70 in (1,778 mm) of bed

Frequently Asked Questions
01
4.09 in (104 mm), through a D1-8 spindle nose. The spindle taper is MT#8, with MT#5 in a reduction sleeve, and the front bearing is 5.51 in (140 mm) in diameter. For comparison, the TRL 1845RX has a 2.36 in (60 mm) bore on a D1-6 nose.
02
Two ranges, 40 - 670 rpm and 100 - 1,800 rpm, from a 15 hp (11.2 kW) motor with a dynamic brake. There is no speed above 1,800 rpm, so small-diameter finishing runs at a lower surface speed than on the TRL 1845RX, which reaches 2,500 rpm.
03
Swing over the bed is 24 in (610 mm), swing over the cross slide is 14.5 in (368 mm) and the distance between centers is 70 in (1,778 mm). Height of centers is 12 in (305 mm) and cross-slide travel is 12.5 in (318 mm). The bed is 14.57 in (370 mm) wide, with ways at 480-560 HB.
04
Yes, as an option. The headstock is lubricated by an oil bath with a capacity of 5.3 gal, and the table gives 6.3 gal with the oil cooler option fitted. It is worth asking about for long runs in the upper speed range.
05
A 200V to 240V three-phase, 60 Hz supply at 54.7A full load. The machine measures 129 x 84 x 79 in (3,277 x 2,134 x 2,007 mm) and weighs 6,500 lbs (2,948 kg), so check the route in and the floor before delivery.
