How much does the TRAK DPM RX3 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the TRAK DPM RX3 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The TRAK DPM RX3 pairs a 40 Taper spindle and a 5 hp (3.7 kW) continuous motor with a 50 x 10 in (1,270 x 254 mm) table and the ProtoTRAK RMX CNC. Travels are 31.5 in (800 mm) in X, 17 in (432 mm) in Y and 25.5 in (648 mm) in Z, measured with way covers installed; travel with limit switches is approx. 1 in less on each axis.
Set beside the DPM RX2, the table barely changes. The spindle does: the DPM RX2 is an R8 machine with 3 hp (2.2 kW) continuous, on a 49 x 9 in (1,245 x 229 mm) table. TRAK's own capacity figures show the effect, with milling capacity on the DPM RX3 listed at 5 in³/min (82 cm³/min) and tapping at 1 - 8, alongside 1 in (25 mm) drilling.
Both spindle ranges, 40 - 600 rpm and 300 - 5,000 rpm, are the ones the DPM RX2 and DPM RX5 list as well. The quill is 3 15/16 in (100 mm) in diameter with 5 in (127 mm) of travel and feeds of 0.0015/0.003/0.006 in per spindle revolution, and the head swivels +/- 90° side to side. Throat depth, spindle center to column face, is 20.5 in (521 mm).
The heavier head costs weight, not table capacity. The DPM RX3 weighs 4,100 lbs net (1,860 kg) and carries 1,320 lbs (599 kg) on the table, the same load as the DPM RX2. For more, the DPM RX5 is rated 1,760 lbs (798 kg).
Rapids are 250 ipm (6.3 m/min) on all axes with mechanical handwheels, or 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) on X and Y with electronic handwheels. Supply is 200-240V three-phase at 26.6A. The base is 24 x 43.31 in (610 x 1,100 mm), yet the machine is 73.5 in (1,867 mm) wide including the table and needs 102.25 in (2,597 mm) with full table traverse. Height runs from 87.5 in (2,222 mm) to 100.5 in (2,553 mm).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 40 Taper spindle with 5 hp (3.7 kW) continuous, against R8 and 3 hp (2.2 kW) on the DPM RX2
- 25.5 in (648 mm) of Z travel and up to 25.81 in (656 mm) from spindle nose to table
- Milling capacity listed at 5 in³/min (82 cm³/min) and tapping at 1 - 8
- 20.5 in (521 mm) from spindle center to column face
- Quill of 3 15/16 in (100 mm) diameter with 5 in (127 mm) of travel, on a head that swivels +/- 90° side to side
Limitations
- Table load is 1,320 lbs (599 kg), no higher than the DPM RX2; the DPM RX5 carries 1,760 lbs (798 kg)
- Spindle speed stops at 5,000 rpm, and reaching it means running in the 300 - 5,000 rpm high range
- Z rapid is 250 ipm (6.3 m/min) whichever handwheels are fitted
- A 10 in (254 mm) wide table under 17 in (432 mm) of Y travel
- Draws 26.6A at 200-240V three-phase
