Price estimate
We do not have a price for the FANUC Robodrill D116CS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The FANUC Robodrill D116CS is a large-envelope Robodrill: 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of X travel, 600 mm (23.6 in) of Y and 400 mm (15.7 in) of Z over a 1,250 x 600 mm (49.2 x 23.6 in) working space, with a 600 kg (1,323 lb) table load. For scale, the Robodrill α-D14LiBADV travels 700 x 500 x 400 mm (27.6 x 19.7 x 15.7 in) and carries 500 kg (1,100 lb).
Four spindles are listed, and their ratings differ more than their speeds suggest. The basic 10,000 rpm spindle is rated 3.7 kW continuous and 13 kW 1-min (5.0 / 17.4 hp). The high-torque spindle, also 10,000 rpm, is 4.0 / 15.5 kW. The 12,000 rpm high-acceleration spindle is 10 / 34 kW, by far the strongest of the four, and the 24,000 rpm high-speed spindle is 4.5 / 26 kW. A shop that mills steel for long stretches should look hard at the continuous figures, not the short-time peaks.
Rapid traverse is 54 m/min (2,126 in/min) in X and Y and 60 m/min (2,362 in/min) in Z, with Z acceleration up to 2.4 G. The fast Z axis is what shortens drilling and tapping cycles, where the spindle spends its time moving in and out of holes. Bidirectional positioning accuracy is 0.0065 mm to ISO 230-2:1988 and bidirectional repeatability is less than 0.004 mm.
The turret is a choice between a servo-driven type with 21 or 28 tools and a spindle-driven type with 14 or 21 tools. Tool-to-tool time at the fastest servo-turret setting is 0.6 s for 14 / 21 tools and 0.7 s for 28 tools. Each tool may weigh up to 4 kg (8.8 lb), and the 21 and 28-tool turrets carry up to 46 kg (101 lb) in total, so a full turret cannot be loaded with maximum-weight tools throughout.
Control is the FANUC Series 31i-B5 Plus. The machine occupies 2,710 x 2,460 mm (106.7 x 96.9 in) of floor, stands 2,618 mm ±10 mm (103.1 in) tall without the high column and weighs approximately 3,550 kg (7,826 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,100 x 600 x 400 mm (43.3 x 23.6 x 15.7 in) travels over a 1,250 x 600 mm (49.2 x 23.6 in) working space
- Table load of 600 kg (1,323 lb), enough for multi-station fixtures along the long X axis
- Z rapid of 60 m/min (2,362 in/min) with acceleration up to 2.4 G
- High-acceleration spindle option rated 10 / 34 kW at 12,000 rpm
- Tool-to-tool time of 0.6 s with 14 / 21 tools at the fastest servo-turret setting
- Bidirectional repeatability of less than 0.004 mm
Limitations
- The basic spindle is rated 3.7 kW continuous, so sustained heavy milling calls for one of the other spindles
- Maximum tool weight is 4 kg (8.8 lb), with a 46 kg (101 lb) total on the 21 / 28-tool turrets
- 28 tools is listed only for the servo-driven turret; the spindle-driven turret has 14 / 21 tools
- Needs 2,710 x 2,460 mm (106.7 x 96.9 in) of floor space

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Travels are 1,100 mm (43.3 in) in X, 600 mm (23.6 in) in Y and 400 mm (15.7 in) in Z. The working space on the table is 1,250 x 600 mm (49.2 x 23.6 in), which is longer than the X travel, and the maximum table load is 600 kg (1,323 lb).
02
Four. Basic: 10,000 rpm, 3.7 kW continuous and 13 kW 1-min (5.0 / 17.4 hp). High-torque: 10,000 rpm, 4.0 / 15.5 kW. High-acceleration: 12,000 rpm, 10 / 34 kW. High-speed: 24,000 rpm, 4.5 / 26 kW. The pairs follow the order given for the basic spindle, continuous rating first and 1-min rating second.
03
At the fastest servo-turret setting, tool-to-tool time is 0.6 s with 14 / 21 tools and 0.7 s with 28 tools. The figure is tool to tool, not chip to chip, so the full interruption to cutting is longer than that.
04
A single tool can weigh up to 4 kg (8.8 lb). On the 21 / 28-tool turrets the total is limited to 46 kg (101 lb), so heavy holders have to be balanced by lighter ones elsewhere in the turret.
05
FANUC lists bidirectional positioning accuracy of 0.0065 mm, measured to ISO 230-2:1988, and bidirectional repeatability of less than 0.004 mm, to ISO 230-2:1997 and 2006.
06
Floor space is 2,710 x 2,460 mm (106.7 x 96.9 in). Height is 2,618 mm ±10 mm (103.1 in) without the high column, so check door and ceiling clearance if the high column is ordered. Machine weight is approximately 3,550 kg (7,826 lb).
