Overview

The Haas VF-5/40 is the 40-taper machine on the VF-5 frame, with 50 × 26 × 25 in (1,270 × 660 × 635 mm) of travel and a 54 × 24 in (1,372 × 610 mm) table that takes 4,000 lb (1,814 kg). Its spindle is the 30 hp (22.4 kW), 8,100 rpm inline direct-drive unit, and tools sit in a 20-pocket carousel.

Think of it as the general-purpose choice among three ways to equip the same envelope. The VF-5SS swaps in a 12,000 rpm spindle, 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) rapids and 30+1 tools, and its table rating falls to 1,750 lb (794 kg).
