Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Tormach 770MX that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Tormach 770MX packs BT30 tooling and absolute-encoder servos into Tormach's small cast iron frame: 14 in (356 mm) × 7.5 in (191 mm) × 13.25 in (337 mm) of travel and a 26 in × 8 in (660 mm × 203 mm) table. Spindle power is listed as 2 hp (1.49 kW) with a 4.5 hp (3.35 kW) peak, and the top speed is 10,000 rpm.
This is the upgraded machine. Tormach describes it as its proven platform with increased spindle power and electronics moved to its latest EtherCAT-based controls and servos, built by its own teams in the USA, Canada and Mexico starting from December 2025. One result is a small mill that outruns the larger 1100MX on feed: 450 ipm (11.4 m/min) in X and Y and 420 ipm (10.6 m/min) in Z here, against 300 ipm (7.62 m/min) and 230 ipm (5.84 m/min) on the 1100MX.
The envelope is the limit. Y travel is 7.5 in (191 mm) and the spindle centerline sits 8.6 in (218 mm) from the column, so this is a machine for vise work and small plates. Maximum clearance from spindle nose to table is 13.75 in (349 mm), which a vise, a holder and a drill use up quickly. The table itself is rated for 500 lb (227 kg).
Services are heavier than the size suggests. The 770MX wants single-phase 230 VAC on a 20A breaker and air at 90-120 psi. A typical system takes 56 in × 48.5 in (1,422 mm × 1,232 mm) of floor, stands 88 in (2,235 mm) high and weighs 1,500 lb (681 kg) factory assembled. The touchscreen operator console is standard. The 10-pocket automatic tool changer comes only with the Premium package.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Feed rates of 450 ipm (11.4 m/min) in X and Y and 420 ipm (10.6 m/min) in Z, faster than the larger 1100MX at 300 ipm (7.62 m/min)
- Spindle listed at 2 hp (1.49 kW) with a 4.5 hp (3.35 kW) peak, reaching 10,000 rpm on a BT30 taper
- EtherCAT servos with absolute encoders on the axes
- Rigid tapping, tension/compression tapping and thread milling are all listed
- Typical footprint of 56 in × 48.5 in (1,422 mm × 1,232 mm) with a table rated for 500 lb (227 kg)
Limitations
- Y travel is only 7.5 in (191 mm), against 11 in (279 mm) on the 1100MX
- Maximum spindle nose to table clearance of 13.75 in (349 mm) limits tall setups
- Needs 230 VAC and air at 90-120 psi, where the 770M plugs into a 115 Vac circuit
- The 10-pocket automatic tool changer is included only in the Premium package

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The two share travels of 14 in (356 mm) × 7.5 in (191 mm) × 13.25 in (337 mm), and both spindles reach 10,000 rpm. The 770MX has a BT30 taper, 2 hp (1.49 kW) and EtherCAT servos feeding at 450 ipm (11.4 m/min) in X and Y; the 770M has an R8 taper, 1.5 hp (1.12 kW) and feeds at 135 ipm (3.43 m/min). Only the 770MX lists rigid tapping. It also needs 230 VAC and compressed air, while the 770M runs on 115 Vac.
02
Tormach lists spindle power as 2 hp (1.49 kW) and peak spindle power as 4.5 hp (3.35 kW), with a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm on a BT30 taper. A peak rating is what a motor delivers for short periods, so plan sustained cuts around the lower figure and treat the peak as headroom for brief loads such as tapping or a heavy entry.
03
The typical system footprint is 56 in × 48.5 in (1,422 mm × 1,232 mm) and the overall system height is 88 in (2,235 mm). A factory assembled system weighs 1,500 lb (681 kg). Services are single-phase 230 VAC on a 20A breaker, with a NEMA 6-20P plug into a NEMA 6-20R receptacle, plus air at 90-120 psi.
04
A 10-pocket automatic tool changer appears in Tormach's package comparison and is included only in the Premium package, which also brings a wireless probe and toolsetter, flood coolant kit, fixture tooling plate and factory assembly. The machine-only configuration is the mill, stand and enclosure with the PathPilot operator console and a manual oil pump.
05
Tormach states that, starting from December 2025, the 770MX is designed and manufactured by its teams in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The company describes itself as 100% employee-owned and says every machine is backed by the same engineering standards, customer support and PathPilot control system wherever it is made.
