Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Tormach 770M that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Tormach 770M is a compact mill that runs from an ordinary 115 Vac circuit with a 15A breaker. For that supply it offers 14 in (356 mm) of X travel, 7.5 in (191 mm) of Y and 13.25 in (337 mm) of Z, plus an R8 spindle of 1.5 hp (1.12 kW) with a top speed of 10,000 rpm.
Where it can be installed is the reason many buyers look at it. A NEMA 5-15P plug is all the wiring it asks for. Tormach adds that the machine can be moved when disassembled into three sub-components, the column, base and head, for which a moving kit is required. At 950 lb (431 kg) for a typical system on a 56 in × 48.5 in (1,422 mm × 1,232 mm) footprint, it goes into basements and garages that a larger mill never reaches.
Spindle speed is high for the frame. The 10,000 rpm maximum beats the 7,500 rpm of the bigger 1100M, and with 1.5 hp (1.12 kW) behind it the natural work is small cutters in aluminium and plastics, with light cuts in steel. Axis feeds are 135 ipm (3.43 m/min) in X and Y and 110 ipm (2.79 m/min) in Z. The 26 in × 8 in (660 mm × 203 mm) table is rated for 500 lb (227 kg), well beyond what the short Y travel lets most parts use.
Like the other M machines this one is stepper driven, and Tormach says the M line has no positional feedback. Tapping is by tension/compression holder, auto-reversing head or thread mill. The base mill is sold bare; stand, enclosure, power drawbar, probe and a 10-pocket automatic tool changer arrive with the packages. Buyers who want servos and BT30 on the same travels should read the 770MX figures: 450 ipm (11.4 m/min) in X and Y and 2 hp (1.49 kW).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Runs on single-phase 115 Vac with a 15A breaker and a NEMA 5-15P plug
- 10,000 rpm spindle on a compact frame
- Typical system weight of 950 lb (431 kg), and the mill comes apart into column, base and head for moving
- 14.25 in (362 mm) of maximum clearance between spindle nose and table
- Table rated for 500 lb (227 kg)
Limitations
- Spindle power is 1.5 hp (1.12 kW), below the 2 hp (1.49 kW) of the 770MX
- Y travel is 7.5 in (191 mm) and the table is 8 in (203 mm) wide
- Stepper axes without positional feedback, feeding at 135 ipm (3.43 m/min) in X and Y
- No rigid tapping; the listed methods are tension/compression, auto-reversing and thread mill
- Stand, enclosure, power drawbar and the 10-pocket tool changer are not part of the base mill

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Tormach lists the power requirement as single-phase 115 Vac, 50/60 Hz, with a 15A breaker. The machine is supplied with a NEMA 5-15P plug and requires a NEMA 5-15R receptacle. That is the same supply the PCNC 440 uses. The 770MX, by contrast, is listed at 230 VAC with a 20A breaker.
02
The typical system weight is 950 lb (431 kg). Tormach says the machine can be placed in tight spaces and moved when disassembled into three sub-components, the column, base and head, with a moving kit. Overall system height is 88 in (2,235 mm) and the typical footprint is 56 in × 48.5 in (1,422 mm × 1,232 mm).
03
Tormach says the 770M handles titanium, stainless steel and hardened steel along with plastics and wood. The figures set the terms: 1.5 hp (1.12 kW) at the spindle, 10,000 rpm maximum and feeds of 135 ipm (3.43 m/min) in X and Y. Expect small cutters and shallow depths of cut in the hard materials, and far more freedom in aluminium and plastics.
04
No. The tapping row lists tension/compression, auto-reversing and thread mill. Tormach explains that its MX machines have an encoded spindle that allows rigid tapping, and that the alternative on the M side is thread milling or a tapping head. The 770MX lists rigid tapping on the same travels.
05
The machine-only configuration is the 770M base mill with the PathPilot CNC controller and free PathPilot updates for life. The stand and backsplash, manual oil pump, vise and basic toolholding set start with the Essentials package. The enclosure, automatic oiler, power drawbar and spindle probe come with the Equipped package, and the 10-pocket automatic tool changer with the Premium package.
