How much does the Tajmac-ZPS MCV1680i cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Tajmac-ZPS MCV1680i that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Step up one frame size and the ZPS vertical line changes character. The MCV1680i has 1,700 mm (66.9 in) of X travel and 840 mm (33.1 in) on both Y and Z, a table load of 2,500 kg, and a machine weight of 13,800 kg, against 8,300 kg for the MCV1260i. It is built for load, and the brochure says so directly: the frame design allows what the maker calls enormous load, and the machines are favoured for FSW, friction stir welding, which needs high pressing force in the Z-axis.
The spindle list reflects that. Alongside the units shared with the smaller machine there is an ISO 50 gearbox spindle limited to 3,500 rpm that delivers 893 / 1,339 Nm, the highest torque in the vertical range. The 8,000 rpm gearbox spindle, in ISO 50 or HSK-100, gives 519 / 779 Nm on 19.5 / 29.3 kW. For lighter, faster work there are the belt-driven ISO 40 unit at 12,000 rpm and three electrospindles at 15,000 rpm, 18,000 rpm and, in HSK-100, 14,000 rpm with 25.0 / 37.0 kW.
Mass has a cost in dynamics. Rapid traverse and maximal working feed are 30 m/min and acceleration is 3.5 m/s2, both lower than on the MCV1260i. Positioning error to ISO 230-2 is listed at 0.009 mm with 0.0034 mm repeatability, measured directly by linear absolute rulers.
The 1,800 × 780 mm table has five 18 mm T-slots on a 160 mm pitch. A chip conveyor is standard on this size, with discharge to the left or the right. The automatic tool changer holds 30 tools in the 40-size tapers or 24 in the 50-size, and the 40-size version accepts tools 400 mm long. An optional pallet changer exchanges 1,800 x 780 mm pallets loaded to 1,500 kg in 30 s.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X is 1,700 mm (66.9 in), Y is 840 mm (33.1 in) and Z is 840 mm (33.1 in), without the automatic pallet changer. The distance from spindle nose to table runs from 110 to 950 mm. With the pallet changer, travel in the Z-axis is 720 mm.
02
The planetary gearbox ISO 50 unit at 3,500 rpm: 893 / 1,339 Nm on 19.5 / 29.3 kW. The 8,000 rpm gearbox units in ISO 50 and HSK-100 give 519 / 779 Nm, and the ISO 40 or HSK-A80 gearbox unit gives 244 / 342 Nm at 10,000 rpm.
03
The maker says the machines are favoured in FSW technologies, which require high pressure force in the Z-axis, and attributes this to a frame design that allows very high load. The brochure does not give a Z-axis force figure, so ask for it against your process.
