Overview
The MORI-SAY TMZ842CNC is an eight-spindle CNC automatic lathe for bar of 42 mm (1.7 in), with 52 mm given in brackets, built around eight independent AC spindle drive units. Each spindle is rated 7 kW nominal and 11 kW maximum at up to 4,500 rpm, so the drum carries 56 kW nominal and 88 kW maximum in total.
Eight stations change what a multi-spindle can finish in one pass. The standard model has 8 longitudinal slides, 7 cross slides and 1 cut-off slide, under 32 controlled CNC axes. That leaves room to split a long drilling or boring operation across stations, so the slowest cut no longer sets the cycle, and still have stations free for threading or a pick-up operation. The drum takes 1 s to move one position of 45°.
Forces are substantial for a 42 mm machine. Longitudinal slides push with 3,400 N at 30 m/min fast traverse. Cross slides give 3,600 N axially and 3,200 N radially; the slides in positions 1 and 2 are power slides. The cut-off slide has 3,000 N. Spindle torque is 66 Nm at 1,000 rpm.
Much of the capability is optional. Y-axis for the cross slides in positions 3 to 7, driven tools with CNC controlled speed (8 drive units, 12,000 rpm, 22 Nm standard torque), a pick-up spindle with hydraulic collet fixing, and a second material feed at the 5th position are all listed as optional equipment. Quick-change holders are CAPTO C3 and C4 or KENNAMETAL K32 and K40.
Besides bar, the maker names forgings and stampings as starting material. Two SINUMERIK 840D solution line controls and TMis software run the machine. It measures 4,538 × 2,352 × 3,238 mm and weighs 16,600 kg, with a separate 2,400 kg electric cabinet and 1,400 litres of coolant.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The bar dimensions table gives a diameter of 42 (52) mm and a length of 3 (4) m. With the SK52 BZI collet and a magazine the range is Ø 11 mm to Ø 42 mm. With an automatic feeder it is Ø 48 mm without bar end finishing and Ø 52 mm with it. For the DIN collet type the feeder figures are Ø 45 mm and Ø 49 mm.
02
Each of the eight spindle motors is rated 7 kW nominal and 11 kW maximum, for a total of 56 kW nominal and 88 kW maximum. Spindle speed is up to 4,500 rpm and spindle torque is 66 Nm at 1,000 rpm, on a spindle pitch diameter of 480 mm.
03
No, they are a CNC option. The brochure lists 8 drive units for driven tools with a speed of 12,000 rpm and a standard torque of 22 Nm. Drives for longitudinal rotary equipment are also optional, at 6,000 rpm and 20 Nm.
04
2 control CNC systems SINUMERIK 840D solution line, with motors and drive units under stepless SINAMICS speed control by SIEMENS, and the maker's own technological software TMis. There are 32 control axes and 24 auxiliary CNC axes for special equipment.
