Overview
The SW BA W02-22 & BA W02-22i pairs two spindles with two work tables on SW's smallest linear-drive platform. SW prints both names in one column of the BA W02 table. The i marks integrated automation in SW's naming scheme, and the page for the series describes such machines as production cells delivered ready for connection.
Each spindle works in 200 mm (7.9 in) of X, 350 mm (13.8 in) of Y and 300 mm (11.8 in) of Z, with 250 mm (9.8 in) between the spindle centers. The second table costs some swing: the 4th-axis interference circle is Ø 425 x 630 mm. In return one table can be loaded while the other is being machined, which SW lists as loading and unloading in parallel to machining time.
There are two spindle choices. HSK-A40 gives 25,000 rpm, 18 kW and 17 Nm per spindle. HSK-E40 gives 36,000 rpm, 14 kW and 7 Nm. Pick the first for general small-part milling and drilling. The second is a finishing spindle for tools of a few millimetres.
Why two spindles on parts this small? SW's answer on the feature list is energy: 50% less energy used per part than a single-spindle machine. The practical answer is floor space, since two parts come off every cycle. The table says nothing about tool magazine size or rapid traverse, so those belong on the question list for SW.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two work tables allow loading during the cut, on a machine with linear drive in the feed axes
- Two spindles 250 mm (9.8 in) apart, with HSK-A40 at 25,000 rpm or HSK-E40 at 36,000 rpm
- The BA W02-22i version comes with integrated automation as a ready-to-connect cell
- SW states 50% less energy used per part compared with a single-spindle machine
- Multi-touch control panel and tool control system on the series feature list
Limitations
- The 4th-axis interference circle is Ø 425 x 630 mm, so fixtures must stay compact
- Only 200 mm (7.9 in) of X per spindle
- No more than 18 kW and 17 Nm per spindle, which rules out heavy cuts in steel
- Magazine capacity and rapid traverse are not in SW's table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It is the BA W02-22 with integrated automation. SW lists both in one table column with the same figures: two spindles 250 mm (9.8 in) apart and 200 x 350 x 300 mm of travel per spindle. SW says it equips machining centers of certain sizes with integrated automation and supplies them ready for connection.
02
With two tables one side is in the work area while the other faces the operator or loader, so parts change during machining time. The price is swing. The BA W02-22 has a Ø 425 x 630 mm interference circle on the 4th axis, and the BA W02-21 has Ø 500 x 630 mm.
03
The HSK-A40 spindle is rated 18 kW and 17 Nm per spindle with a speed range of 1-25,000 rpm. The HSK-E40 spindle is rated 14 kW and 7 Nm per spindle with a range of 1-36,000 rpm. Both figures are per spindle, and the machine has two.

Knee joints, impellers and scroll parts, for the automotive, e-mobility, medical technology and watch industries. All of them are small parts with a lot of contouring, and all are made in quantities where finishing two per cycle on spindles 250 mm (9.8 in) apart is worth the fixture effort.
