Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA 321 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA 321 puts two HSK-A63 spindles over one work table. The spindle distance is 300 mm (11.8 in), the standard figure SW gives for size 3, and each spindle has 300 mm (11.8 in) of X, 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and 375 mm (14.8 in) of Z.
It is the BA 3 for larger fixtures. With a single table the 4th axis has an interference circle of Ø 575 x 830 mm, where the two-table BA 322 has Ø 475 x 830 mm. Y travel is also the longer of the two. The cost is that the spindles stop while parts are changed.
Each spindle is rated 32 kW and 72 Nm with a speed range of 1-10,000 rpm; 1-17,500 rpm is optional. Two of them cutting together draw a combined load a single-spindle machine never sees, so fixture stiffness matters more than on a one-spindle machine.
SW's video list for the series shows precision bipolar forceps machined on a BA 321, and the series page names impellers, brake calipers, scroll compressors and ABS valve bodies. For jobs like these the question is simple. Do two parts fit side by side at 300 mm pitch? If so, the second spindle halves the number of cycles per batch.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two HSK-A63 spindles at 300 mm (11.8 in) distance, each with 32 kW and 72 Nm
- Ø 575 x 830 mm interference circle on the 4th axis, the larger of the two BA 3 figures
- 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y travel, against 450 mm (17.7 in) on the BA 322
- Optional 1-17,500 rpm speed range for small tools
Limitations
- Single work table, so parts are changed with the spindles idle
- X travel per spindle is 300 mm (11.8 in)
- Parts and fixtures have to repeat at the 300 mm spindle distance
- SW's table lists no magazine capacity or rapid traverse

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The number of work tables, which is the last digit in SW's naming scheme. The BA 321 has one table, 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and a Ø 575 x 830 mm interference circle. The BA 322 has two tables, 450 mm (17.7 in) of Y and Ø 475 x 830 mm. Spindles, spindle distance, X and Z are the same.
02
300 mm (11.8 in). SW's nomenclature gives 300 mm as the standard spindle distance for size 3. Each spindle also has 300 mm of X travel, so the two work spaces sit side by side without a gap.
03
Each is an HSK-A63 spindle with 32 kW and 72 Nm. The standard speed range is 1-10,000 rpm, and 1-17,500 rpm is offered as an option. The ratings are per spindle.
04
SW names impellers, brake calipers, scroll compressors and ABS valve bodies for the BA 3 series and lists automotive, medical technology, watches, agricultural and construction machinery, and hydrogen and fuel cells as industries. One of SW's videos on the series page shows bipolar forceps being machined on a BA 321.
