How much does the SHW UniSpeed Globe cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SHW UniSpeed Globe that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SHW UniSpeed Globe is the short-bed, heavy-cutting member of the UniSpeed family. Maximum travels are 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in X, 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Y (vertical) and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z (horizontal cross). The workpiece sits on one of two tables, which SHW lists in a single line: clamping table 2,000 x 1,600 mm (78.7 x 63.0 in) or rotary table Ø 1,600 mm (63.0 in), 8 t (17,637 lb).
Where the UniSpeed 2500 quotes a range, up to 44/70 kW (59.0/93.9 hp) and up to 8,000/24,000 rpm, the Globe's brochure column gives one drive: 36 kW (48.3 hp) and up to 6,000 rpm. SHW's product page adds a torque of up to 875 Nm (645.4 lb-ft). A lower top speed with that much torque points the machine at large cutters in tough materials, not at high-speed finishing. SHW describes it the same way, as the all-rounder for heavy-duty machining.
The head is the universal milling head in orthogonal design with both axes 1° hirth-toothed, swivelling 180° on A and 360° on C as standard. Tools come from a tool changer with up to 90 tools and are held in SK50 BIG-PLUS or HSK 100 A DIN 69893. Coolant runs through a compact filter with 950 l (251 gal) / 40 bar (580 psi) IKZ, the German abbreviation for coolant supplied through the tool.
Installation is the other selling point. SHW says the torsion-resistant hybrid frame lets the machine stand on a standard industrial hall floor. The Globe is offered as a milling machine or a turn-mill machine, and the control is listed as Heidenhain TNC 640 / Siemens 840D sl. Linear axes move at up to 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) with 2 m/s² of acceleration.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Torque of up to 875 Nm (645.4 lb-ft) from a 36 kW (48.3 hp) drive
- Clamping table 2,000 x 1,600 mm (78.7 x 63.0 in) or rotary table Ø 1,600 mm (63.0 in), 8 t (17,637 lb)
- Tool changer with up to 90 tools
- Compact filter with 950 l (251 gal) / 40 bar (580 psi) IKZ
- Stands on a standard industrial hall floor thanks to the torsion-resistant hybrid frame, per SHW
- Turn-mill version available alongside the milling machine
Limitations
- Spindle speed tops out at up to 6,000 rpm, where the UniSpeed 2500 is listed with up to 8,000/24,000 rpm
- X travel is 2,000 mm (78.7 in), the shortest of the UniSpeed machines; the UniSpeed 3500 has 3,500 mm (137.8 in)
- The brochure lists no pallet-changing version for the Globe, unlike the UniSpeed 2500
- Both head axes are 1° hirth-toothed, so the head positions in steps

Frequently Asked Questions
01
SHW's product page gives a torque of up to 875 Nm (645.4 lb-ft) and a speed of up to 6,000 rpm; the brochure lists the drive at 36 kW (48.3 hp). That is a single drive specification, where the larger UniSpeed machines are listed with a range of spindle units.
02
SHW lists the tables in one line: clamping table 2,000 x 1,600 mm (78.7 x 63.0 in) or rotary table Ø 1,600 mm (63.0 in), 8 t (17,637 lb). The line does not say whether the weight applies to both tables or how it changes when the table is used for turning, so ask for the load rating of the table and the mode you plan to use.
03
The Globe has 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of X travel and the UniSpeed 2500 has 2,500 mm (98.4 in); Y and Z are 1,300 mm (51.2 in) on both. The Globe has a 36 kW (48.3 hp) drive with up to 6,000 rpm, while the UniSpeed 2500 is listed with up to 44/70 kW (59.0/93.9 hp) and up to 8,000/24,000 rpm. The UniSpeed 2500 also comes as a pallet-changing machine.
04
SHW says the torsion-resistant hybrid frame allows installation on standard industrial hall floors. The maker publishes no machine weight or floor-load figure on the product page, so have the floor checked against the installation drawing before ordering.
05
The product page names the control as Heidenhain TNC 640 / Siemens 840D sl. The brochure's option list for the Globe likewise shows Siemens and Heidenhain.
