How much does the SW BA space3 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA space3 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA space3 is a large-format machining center for structural parts: 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X travel, 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of Y and 875 mm (34.4 in) of Z under a single spindle. SW describes it as specialized for large structural components and lists battery trays, structural components and subframes as its work.
Unlike the rest of SW's range, the table has no row for a 4th-axis interference circle. The envelope is a flat slab three metres long, which is the shape of a battery tray or a vehicle underbody casting.
Two spindle heads are listed, both with HSK-A63. The rigid spindle has a 1-17,500 rpm range with 35 kW and 80 Nm. The 2-axis swivel head has a 1-20,000 rpm range with 34 kW and 40 Nm. SW's feature list names 5-axis machining with swivel head spindle, so five-axis work depends on choosing that head. It has half the torque of the rigid spindle. That is the usual price of a compact swivelling unit, and it is acceptable in thin-walled aluminium.
The axes use linear drives, and the feature list includes loading and unloading in parallel to machining time and a monoblock design. Rapid traverse, accuracy and the swivel angles of the head are not given in the table. On a machine bought for five-axis work those are the first figures to ask SW for.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 3,000 x 1,800 x 875 mm work space for large structural parts
- 2-axis swivel head with HSK-A63 and a 20,000 rpm range for 5-axis machining
- Rigid HSK-A63 spindle alternative with 35 kW and 80 Nm
- Linear drive technology in the feed axes
- Loading and unloading in parallel to machining time on SW's feature list
Limitations
- The swivel head delivers 40 Nm, half the 80 Nm of the rigid spindle
- HSK-A63 is the only interface listed
- SW's table gives no swivel angles, rapid traverse or accuracy
- A single spindle works one part at a time

Frequently Asked Questions
01
With the right head. SW's feature list names 5-axis machining with swivel head spindle, and the table lists a 2-axis swivel head with HSK-A63, a 1-20,000 rpm range, 34 kW and 40 Nm. The alternative is a rigid HSK-A63 spindle with 35 kW and 80 Nm.
02
3,000 mm (118.1 in) in X, 1,800 mm (70.9 in) in Y and 875 mm (34.4 in) in Z. SW's table shows no 4th-axis interference circle for this model.
03
The BA space3 has one spindle and 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X. The BA space3-22 has two spindles and 2,110 mm (83.1 in) of X. Y, Z and the two spindle head options are the same in SW's table.
04
SW names battery trays, structural components and subframes, for automotive, e-mobility, agricultural and construction machinery, and aerospace. The feature list calls the machine specialized for large structural components.
