How much does the SHW PowerSpeed 2000 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SHW PowerSpeed 2000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SHW PowerSpeed 2000 is a travelling column milling machine: the column that carries the milling head runs along a bed while the workpiece stays where it was clamped. SHW's brochure gives the maximum travels as 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in) in X, 2,600 mm (102.4 in) in Y, which is the vertical axis, and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z, the horizontal cross travel. Read the X figure as a ceiling. SHW stresses the machine's individual configurability, and the bed length is part of that.
It's the smaller of the two numbered PowerSpeed models. The PowerSpeed 4000 goes to 4,100 mm (161.4 in) in Y and 1,600 mm (63.0 in) in Z, so this model suits work that is long but not tall. Both carry the same acceleration figure of 3.5 m/s², and feeds and rapids here reach up to 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm).
The standard head is SHW's universal milling head in orthogonal design, swivelling 180° on A and 360° on C. The drive row is printed as a pair, up to 44/70 kW (59.0/93.9 hp) and up to 8,000/24,000 rpm for main drive/motor spindle, with SK 50 BIG-PLUS or HSK 100 A DIN 69893 tool holders. Fork, horizontal, angle and special milling heads are options.
SHW lists five versions in all: milling machine, turn-mill machine, head-changing machine, double-column machine and pallet-changing machine. Workpiece handling options run from a plain clamping plate through rotary tables, a rotary table with transverse axis and turntables to a pallet changer. The control is Heidenhain or Siemens. SHW names toolmaking and mechanical engineering as the typical users, in one-off and small batch production.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- X travel configurable up to 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in)
- Acceleration of 3.5 m/s² with feeds and rapids up to 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm)
- Five listed versions, including head-changing, double-column and pallet-changing machines
- Main drive/motor spindle row of up to 44/70 kW (59.0/93.9 hp) and up to 8,000/24,000 rpm
- Wide head range: universal, fork, horizontal, angle and special milling heads
Limitations
- Vertical travel is 2,600 mm (102.4 in) at most; the PowerSpeed 4000 reaches 4,100 mm (161.4 in)
- Z, the horizontal cross travel, is limited to 1,300 mm (51.2 in)
- The brochure gives maximum values only; no torque, table load or weight is published
- Rapids of up to 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) are below the PowerSpeed 4000's up to 40,000 mm/min (1,575 ipm)

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The brochure lists maximum travels of 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in) in X, 2,600 mm (102.4 in) in Y (vertical) and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z (horizontal cross). These are upper limits for the model; the travels of an individual machine are fixed when it is configured.
02
Feeds and rapid traverse in X, Y and Z run up to 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm), and the brochure quotes an acceleration of 3.5 m/s². The PowerSpeed 4000 is listed with the same acceleration and up to 40,000 mm/min (1,575 ipm).
03
The base machine carries the universal milling head in orthogonal design with standard swivel ranges of 180° on the A axis and 360° on the C axis. SHW lists universal, fork, horizontal, angle and special milling heads as options, and a head-changing machine is one of the listed versions.
04
SHW prints the main drive/motor spindle row as up to 44/70 kW (59.0/93.9 hp) and up to 8,000/24,000 rpm. Tool holders are SK 50 BIG-PLUS or HSK 100 A DIN 69893. Torque is not stated in the brochure.
05
A turn-mill machine and a pallet-changing machine are both among the versions SHW lists, and the options include turntables, a pallet changer, a tool magazine, a tool loading station and a tool pick-up. Which of these can be combined on one machine is a question for SHW's project engineers.
