Emco Ecomill Plus

The Emco Ecomill Plus is a travelling-column milling machine with a horizontal ram: the column runs along a bed of 4000 - 14000 mm, the head rises 3,000 mm (118.1 in) and the ram reaches 1,600 mm (63.0 in) across. Workpieces stand on a floor plate or tables in front of it and do not move during the cut.

Of the three Ecomill models this is the tall one, and the one with the widest head programme. It is the only Ecomill listed with an automatic head magazine, 2 / 3 pockets, and with torque-motor heads carrying high-speed spindles up to 24,000 rpm. A machine can therefore be set up to rough with a mechanical head and finish with an electrospindle without an operator changing heads by hand.

The universal head is rated 38 / 48 kW - 38 / 57 kW (S1/S6) and 600 / 750 Nm - 1000 / 1500 Nm (S1/S6), the second pair being the stronger variant, at speeds of 15 ÷ 8000 rpm. Behind it the spindle motor is 60 kW, 600 Nm, or 40 kW, 1200 Nm where low-speed torque matters more. The ram and column are built box-in-box, and the ram balancing is a patented system.

Feed rate is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm). Tool storage runs from a column-mounted magazine of 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 pockets to a tower changer with up to 203 pockets. Heidenhain and Siemens controls are offered, and Emco stresses that the configuration follows the customer's requirement.
