Overview
The ShopSabre IS EVA 408 is the production-grade 4x8 machine in ShopSabre's EVA foam line: an Industrial Series router with a tangential oscillating knife, a 10 hp tool changer holding 12 tools and a Becker VTLF vacuum pump in its Well Equipped list. Rapid speed is 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min) over a 65 x 100 x 12 in (1,651 x 2,540 x 305 mm) cut area.
Knife work is mostly travel. An outline cut in foam puts almost no load on the machine, so throughput on a decking job is set by how quickly the head gets from one pad to the next and how fast it can follow curves, which is where the IS drive train, with its oversized ball screws and AC servo motors, separates this model from the 1,200 ipm PRO EVA 408.
The package is also more complete. The knife comes with auto knife length compensation, and ShopSabre lists a dual-head EVA tool calibration package so the knife and the router bit are measured against the same reference. That is what keeps a routed groove at a constant depth relative to a knife-cut edge when blades and bits are changed.
