Sharp STF-64 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Sharp STF-64 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Sharp or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Sharp STF-64 is the top of the STF facing lathe line, a big bore CNC chucking machine with a 63.78 in (1620 mm) swing over the bed. It fills a gap in Sharp's long-bed range, where the STB-60 swings 59.84 in (1520 mm) and the next size, the STB-70, jumps to 71.65 in (1820 mm).

Over the cross slide the swing is 43.31 in (1100 mm). That figure decides how deep a part can be: a ring thicker than the tool overhang has to let the cross slide pass beneath it, and anything above 43.31 in must be worked from the front face only.

At this size the cross stroke covers less of the part. X-axis travel is 25.59 in (650 mm), the same as on the STF-50, which swings 51.97 in (1320 mm). Plan on facing a full-diameter part in two settings of the tool, or on a turret that places tools at different radii; Sharp's hydraulic 4-way, V-8 and V-12 turrets are all options.

The machine weighs 23,800 lb (10,800 kg) and stands 93.11 in (2,365 mm) high on a bed 31.88 in (810 mm) wide. A 30 hp motor drives the spindle through a gearbox whose four speed steps change by M code, and the gears and shafts are hardened and ground alloy steel.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 63.78 in (1620 mm) swing, a size between the STB-60 and the STB-70
  • 43.31 in (1100 mm) swing over the cross slide
  • 23,800 lb (10,800 kg) total weight
  • Hardened and ground alloy steel gears and shafts in the headstock
  • Rear chuck adapter and double chucks available as options

Limitations

  • X travel of 25.59 in (650 mm) is well under half the swing
  • Z travel of 39.37 in (1000 mm) with no tailstock
  • Same 30 hp standard motor as the STF-44
  • Tallest STF model at 93.11 in (2,365 mm)

Best For

Rings and flanges up to 63.78 in swing Large gear blanks and wheel centres Front-face and bore work on short heavy parts Parts too large for the STB-60 but not needing a long bed

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the largest part the STF-64 can swing?

63.78 in (1620 mm) over the bed and 43.31 in (1100 mm) over the cross slide. Z-axis travel is 39.37 in (1000 mm), and the machine has no tailstock, so parts are held by the chuck alone.

02 Can the STF-64 face a part of full swing diameter?

Not from one tool position. X-axis travel is 25.59 in (650 mm), which Sharp says varies by the turret installed. A full-diameter face is normally covered with more than one tool station or a second setting, so the turret choice matters more here than on the STF-50.

03 How does the STF-64 differ from the STF-60?

The STF-60 swings 59.84 in (1520 mm) over the bed and 39.37 in (1000 mm) over the cross slide, is 91.14 in (2,315 mm) high and weighs 23,100 lb (10,500 kg). The STF-64 swings 63.78 in (1620 mm) and 43.31 in (1100 mm), is 93.11 in (2,365 mm) high and weighs 23,800 lb (10,800 kg). Travels and motors are identical.

04 Which control does the STF-64 use?

A FANUC Oi-TF, listed both in the specification table and as the standard controller in the accessory list. The axes are driven by 5.3 hp Fanuc AC servo motors through C3 ballscrews, 1.57 in (40 mm) on X and 2.48 in (63 mm) on Z.
