How much does the Sharp STB-70 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Sharp STB-70 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Sharp STB-70 swings 71.65 in (1820 mm) over the bed, which makes it the largest STB big bore CNC lathe still sold in all six bed lengths. The step up from the STB-60 is close to a foot of diameter, and swing over the cross slide rises with it to 55.12 in (1400 mm).
Do not expect to face a full-diameter disc in one stroke. X-axis travel is 27.56 in (700 mm), well under half of 71.65 in, so the tool reaches part of the radius from one turret position. This is a machine for pipe ends, large couplings and rolls, where the cut is on the outside diameter, in the bore or on a narrow face.
Building height needs checking: the STB-70 stands 95.2 in (2,420 mm) high, and a part near full swing has to be lowered into the chuck from above. Weight starts at 37,900 lb (17,220 kg) on the shortest bed and reaches 49,800 lb (22,620 kg) on the longest. The bed is the same 31.89 in (810 mm) casting used through the line, with 2 V, 2 Flat Ways.
Short beds are worth a look at this swing. The STB-7060 has 59.06 in (1,500 mm) between centers and 45.28 in (1150 mm) of Z travel, enough for chucking work without paying for bed that is never used.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
71.65 in (1820 mm) over the bed and 55.12 in (1400 mm) over the cross slide. The STB-60 below it is listed at 59.84 in (1520 mm) and 43.31 in (1100 mm), and the STB-95 above it at 95 in (2413 mm) and 78.7 in (2000 mm).

Not in one stroke. X-axis travel is 27.56 in (700 mm), and Sharp notes it varies by the turret installed. Facing a wide surface means working in bands, moving the tool between turret positions, or choosing a tool post that suits the face being cut.
