Overview

A 2,000 mm (78.7 in) bed with a spindle at each end and a turret for each: the Johnford HT-80-2SD is built for long parts that have to be finished at both ends without leaving the machine.

Three of its axes carry 7 kW servo motors: Z1, Z2 and the W axis that moves the sub-spindle. The two X axes have 4 kW each. On the shorter HT-60-2SD all of these are 4 kW, so the step to two metres brings a real change in the feed drives and not only a longer casting.

Typical work is the long tubular or shaft part with features at both ends, such as a threaded connection on each end of a tube. Each turret stays near its own spindle, and the two ends are cut side by side in time instead of one after the other. Bar or tube stock can come through the main spindle: Ø139 mm (5.5 in) with variant C, Ø165 mm (6.5 in) with D, Ø204 mm (8 in) with E.

The sub-spindle is the narrower passage, Ø91 mm (3.6 in) as standard, or Ø116 mm (4.6 in) with the optional A2-11 nose. Swing is Ø710 mm (28 in) over the bed and Ø600 mm (23.6 in) over the cross slide. The machine is 6,000 mm (236.2 in) long and weighs from 22,000 kg (48,400 lb).
