How much does the SCM Balestrini Power cost?

Price estimate

Uncertain

We do not have a price for the SCM Balestrini Power that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.

SCM Balestrini Power — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the SCM Balestrini Power that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from SCM or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The SCM Balestrini Power is a range of 5-axis machining centers for solid wood furniture parts in which the gantry size is chosen to suit the work. Four X axis strokes are listed, 3,000 mm (118.1 in), 4,000 mm (157.5 in), 5,000 mm (196.9 in) and 6,000 mm (236.2 in), with Y axis strokes of 1,800 mm (70.9 in), 2,550 mm (100.4 in) or 3,550 mm (139.8 in).

Height is selectable as well. The Z axis stroke is 700 mm (27.6 in) or 1,000 mm (39.4 in), and SCM says the models differ in the dimensions of the gantry so that voluminous work pieces can be machined. Speeds do not change with size: 90-90-60 m/min in X-Y-Z.

Three head units are offered and they behave differently. The PX5 is a single-electrospindle unit for complex operations and heavy stock removal, with B rotation of +/- 120° and C rotation of +/- 270°. The CS33 and CS44 are revolver units that hold the tools for successive operations on the head itself; their B rotation is 360° in continuous and their C rotation +/- 370°. Maximum rotation speed is 24000 rpm.

Tool storage is a linear store with 6-8 positions and a circular store with 16-20 positions. Guarding comes with horizontal sliding doors, or with vertical sliding doors where the footprint has to be kept down.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Four X axis strokes from 3,000 mm (118.1 in) to 6,000 mm (236.2 in) and three Y axis strokes
  • Z axis stroke of 700 mm (27.6 in) or 1,000 mm (39.4 in) for voluminous work pieces
  • Revolver heads CS33 and CS44 with B rotation of 360° in continuous
  • Circular tool store with 16-20 positions in addition to a linear store with 6-8 positions
  • Vertical sliding door protections available to reduce overall dimensions

Limitations

  • SCM's table gives no spindle power for the PX5, CS33 or CS44 units
  • The PX5 head is limited to +/- 120° in B and +/- 270° in C
  • Z-axis speed of 60 m/min is lower than the 70 m/min listed for the Hypsos in its 80-80-70 m/min (X-Y-Z axes speed) row

Best For

Interior and exterior furniture parts in solid wood Voluminous work pieces that need up to 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z Series production of chair and table components with revolver heads

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What sizes is the Balestrini Power available in?

X axis strokes of 3,000 mm (118.1 in), 4,000 mm (157.5 in), 5,000 mm (196.9 in) and 6,000 mm (236.2 in); Y axis strokes of 1,800 mm (70.9 in), 2,550 mm (100.4 in) and 3,550 mm (139.8 in); and Z axis strokes of 700 mm (27.6 in) or 1,000 mm (39.4 in). SCM does not list which combinations are built.

02 What is the difference between the PX5 and the CS heads?

The PX5 is a single-electrospindle machining head unit that SCM assigns to complex operations and heavy stock removal. The CS33 and CS44 are 5-axis revolver units on which the tools for the different operations are always available.

03 How do the rotary axis ranges compare between heads?

With the PX5, B rotation is +/- 120° and C rotation is +/- 270°. With the CS33 and CS44, B rotation is 360° in continuous and C rotation is +/- 370°.

04 How does it differ from the Balestrini Idea?

The Balestrini Idea has a single X axis stroke of 1,700 mm (66.9 in), while this range starts at 3,000 mm (118.1 in). This model also lists a circular tool store with 16-20 positions.
