Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Salvagnini L3-4020 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Salvagnini L3-4020 is the shorter of the two L3 flat-sheet fiber lasers, with an XY working range of 4,064 x 2,032 mm (160.0 x 80.0 in) and a Z axis stroke of 100 mm (3.9 in). Salvagnini calls the L3 a versatile, multi-purpose laser, and the source list supports that: six fiber sources from 3000 W to 10000 W are offered on the same machine.
Which source is ordered decides what the machine can cut. In steel the table gives 20 mm (0.79 in) with 3000 W and 4000 W, and 25 mm (0.98 in) with every source from 6000 W up. Stainless steel and aluminum keep climbing with power and reach 30 mm (1.18 in) only with 10000 W. Copper and brass stop at 10 mm (0.39 in). Minimum thickness is 0.5 mm (0.02 in) whatever the source. Salvagnini adds that cutting quality on limit thicknesses may depend on the geometries required and on material quality, so treat the top figure of each row as a limit and not as a production thickness.
A single optical head cuts the whole thickness range, so a change of material needs no head adjustment. The patented DRY-COOLING technology controls the temperature of the optics. Nitrogen and oxygen cutting are native; compressed-air cutting needs the ACUT option.
Electrical load also follows the source. Maximum absorbed power runs from 18 kW with 3000 W to 42 kW with 10000 W, and average absorbed power from 12 kW to 24 kW. The 8000 WE high efficiency version is listed at 28 kW maximum, the same as 6000 W, where the standard 8000 W draws 34 kW.
Maximum XY speed is 156 m/min. If the sheets are longer than this bed, the L3-6020 has the same width with a 6,096 x 2,032 mm working range.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Six fiber sources on one machine, from 3000 W to 10000 W, so the thickness range can be matched to the work
- XY working range of 4,064 x 2,032 mm (160.0 x 80.0 in) takes sheet up to 2,032 mm wide
- Stainless steel and aluminum up to 30 mm (1.18 in) with the 10000 W source
- The 8000 WE high efficiency version draws 28 kW maximum against 34 kW for the standard 8000 W
- A single optical head cuts the whole range of workable thicknesses, with no adjustment between jobs
- Automatic nozzle changer (ANC) with nozzle-holder magazine for unmanned production
Limitations
- With 3000 W the limits are 12 mm (0.47 in) in stainless steel, 10 mm (0.39 in) in aluminum and 6 mm (0.24 in) in brass
- Copper and brass never exceed 10 mm (0.39 in), even with 10000 W
- Compressed-air cutting is not native: it needs the ACUT option and suitably treated air
- The accuracy rows (0.08 Pa, 0.03 Ps) are printed without a unit in the table
- Z axis stroke is 100 mm (3.9 in), so this is a flat-sheet machine only

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The XY working range is 4,064 x 2,032 mm (160.0 x 80.0 in), with a Z axis stroke of 100 mm (3.9 in). The L3-6020 keeps the 2,032 mm width and extends the working range to 6,096 x 2,032 mm for longer sheet.
02
It depends on the source. The table gives 20 mm (0.79 in) with 3000 W and 4000 W and 25 mm (0.98 in) with 6000 W, 8000 WE, 8000 W and 10000 W. Salvagnini notes that at limit values burrs may be present on the lower edge of the cut, and that the figures are for its reference materials.
03
Six fiber sources are listed: 3000 W, 4000 W, 6000 W, 8000 WE, 8000 W and 10000 W. The 8000 WE is the high efficiency version. It reaches the same maximum thicknesses as the standard 8000 W in every material row, with 28 kW maximum absorbed power against 34 kW.
04
Maximum absorbed power is 18 kW with 3000 W, 21 kW with 4000 W, 28 kW with 6000 W and 8000 WE, 34 kW with 8000 W and 42 kW with 10000 W. Average absorbed power runs from 12 kW to 24 kW across the same sources. Size the supply from the row of the source on the order.
05
Yes, with the ACUT option. The L3 is natively set up for cutting with nitrogen and oxygen; ACUT extends it to compressed air, provided the air is suitably treated. Without the option, plan the gas supply around nitrogen and oxygen only.
