Overview
The Mazak FJV-60/80 is the wide-column version of Mazak's CAT No.50 double-column machining center: 59.06 in (1,500 mm) between the columns, 55.12 in (1,400 mm) of Y travel and an 88.19 in (2,240 mm) × 49.21 in (1,250 mm) table that carries 8,818 lb (4,000 kg). X travel is 78.74 in (2,000 mm) and Z is 25.98 in (660 mm).
Width is what separates it from the narrow-column machines. The FJV-35/80 has the same X travel and table length but 31.5 in (800 mm) of Y and a table load of 6,614 lb (3,000 kg). The wider bridge shows up in the weight: 57,320 lb (26,000 kg) here against 42,110 lb (19,101 kg) for the FJV-35/80.
With 55.12 in (1,400 mm) of Y over a 49.21 in (1,250 mm) table, the spindle covers the whole table width with margin on each side. The envelope is flat, though. The spindle end sits between 6.3 in (160 mm) and 32.28 in (820 mm) above the table, so this is a machine for plates, frames, mold bases and weldments, not tall housings. Mazak lists a multi-surface machining attachment as an option for the series, enabling four face machining with one angle tool, which is the route to side features on such parts.
The spindle is the family's standard unit: CAT No.50, 10,000 rpm, 30 kW (40 HP) continuous with 176 ft-lb (239 Nm), and 37 kW (50 HP) with 258 ft-lb (350 Nm) at the 40% ED rating. Tools can be up to Ø4.92 in (125 mm), or Ø8.27 in (210 mm) with adjacent pockets empty, 14.96 in (380 mm) long and 44 lb (20 kg), and 30 tools are stored.
