ROMI PH 400 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the ROMI PH 400 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Romi or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The ROMI PH 400 is a twin-pallet horizontal machining center with a cubic working space: 630 mm (24.8 in) of travel in each of X, Y and Z over pallets of 400 x 500 mm (15.7 x 19.7 in). It is the smaller of Romi's two horizontals and the one built for speed of movement.

Rapid traverse is 60 m/min (2,362 in/min) on all three axes, and cutting feed can be programmed up to 30 m/min (1,181 in/min). In the short-cycle work this size of machine does, many holes and faces on a compact casting, time between cuts counts as much as time in the cut. Linear scales on X, Y and Z are standard, which keeps positioning independent of ball screw heating over a long shift.

The spindle takes ISO 40 tooling with BT 40 or BBT 40 shanks and is driven by a 30 hp / 22 kW motor. Forty tools sit in the magazine, each up to 75 mm (2.95 in) in diameter, 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 8 kg (17.6 lbs).

Two pallets are exchanged hydraulically in 12 s, and the operator loads at the front while the other pallet is in the cut. The standard table indexes in steps of 1 degree and carries 600 kg (1,323 lbs). An NC table is optional for contouring in the fourth axis, at a lower load of 500 kg (1,100 lbs). The machine weighs about 14,600 kg (32,187 lbs), needs 55 kVA and runs on a Siemens Sinumerik 828D.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Rapid traverse of 60 m/min (2,362 in/min) on X, Y and Z
  • Two pallets of 400 x 500 mm (15.7 x 19.7 in), changed in 12 s
  • Linear scales on X, Y and Z axes as standard
  • 40-tool magazine for BT 40 / BBT 40 shanks, tools up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long
  • Programmable cutting feed up to 30 m/min (1,181 in/min)

Limitations

  • Pallet load is 600 kg (1,323 lbs), and 500 kg (1,100 lbs) with the optional NC table
  • The standard table only indexes in 1 degree steps; continuous rotation needs the NC option
  • Tool weight is limited to 8 kg (17.6 lbs)
  • One magazine size of 40 tools is listed, against 60 or 120 on the PH 630

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the working envelope of the ROMI PH 400?

X, Y and Z travels are each 630 mm (24.8 in). The distance from spindle nose to table center runs from 100 to 730 mm (3.94 to 28.7 in). Pallet surface is 400 x 500 mm (15.7 x 19.7 in).

02 How much weight can a PH 400 pallet carry?

With the standard indexing table the maximum weight on the pallet is 600 kg (1,323 lbs), uniformly distributed. With the optional NC table it is 500 kg (1,100 lbs). The machine has 2 pallets and changes them in 12 s without load.

03 What tooling does the PH 400 use?

ISO 40 with BT 40 / BBT 40 shanks. The magazine holds 40 tools. Maximum tool diameter is 75 mm (2.95 in), or 130 mm (5.1 in) when adjacent stations are empty; maximum length is 400 mm (15.7 in) and maximum weight 8 kg (17.6 lbs).

04 How does the PH 400 differ from the PH 630?

The PH 400 is the lighter, faster machine: ISO 40, 60 m/min (2,362 in/min) rapids and a 600 kg (1,323 lbs) pallet. The PH 630 uses ISO 50 tooling, moves at 50 m/min (1,969 in/min) and carries 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs) on a 630 x 630 mm (24.8 x 24.8 in) pallet.
