Overview

Five metres of travel under 800 mm (31.5 in) of swing over the cross slide, with the A2-15 spindle: the Johnford ST-200CH is built for long rolls with a large barrel.

The relevant comparison is with the ST-200C, which has the same length and spindle but 700 mm (27.6 in) over the cross slide and 370 mm (14.6 in) of X travel. A barrel that will not pass the smaller carriage needs this frame, and the weight penalty is small: 28,400 kg (62,480 lb) against 28,200 kg (62,040 lb) for the ST-200C.

Z travel is 5,050 mm (198.8 in) and tailstock travel 4,600 mm (181.1 in). The quill is Ø200 mm (7.9 in), MT#7, with 150 mm (5.9 in) of stroke.

A 510 mm (20.1 in) chuck is standard and a 610 mm (24 in) chuck optional. The drive is 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp), or 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp), through four automatic speeds; top speed is 1,500 rpm with the belt-type gearbox and 1,200 rpm with the geared headstock. X travel is 420 mm (16.5 in) on a 7 kW servo motor. Outside dimensions are 11,267 x 2,504 x 2,955 mm (443.6 x 98.6 x 116.3 in).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 When is the ST-200CH needed instead of the ST-200C?

When the part exceeds the ST-200C's 700 mm (27.6 in) of swing over the cross slide. The ST-200CH swings 800 mm (31.5 in) there and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) over the bed, with 420 mm (16.5 in) of X travel.

02 What is the weight of the ST-200CH?

28,400 kg (62,480 lb). The ST-200BH with the smaller spindle weighs 28,200 kg (62,040 lb) and the ST-200DH with the larger one 28,600 kg (62,920 lb).

03 Which chuck does the ST-200CH use?

A 510 mm (20.1 in) 3-jaw hydraulic through-hole chuck with one set of hard and soft jaws as standard. A 610 mm (24 in) chuck is listed as the option.

04 How fast is the ST-200CH spindle?

1,500 rpm as standard and 1,400 rpm as an option with the belt type gear box, or 1,200 rpm with the geared headstock. The transmission has four automatic speeds.
