Overview

The Pinnacle LV5 is a small high-speed vertical machining center with 510 mm (20.1 in) of X, 410 mm (16.1 in) of Y and 510 mm (20.1 in) of Z. It moves at 36 / 36 / 36 m/min in all three axes and weighs 3,400 kg (7,496 lb).

Speed is the point of the machine. Pinnacle lists a direct-drive spindle at 12,000 (15,000) rpm and, for the ISO30 taper, a built-in spindle at 24,000 (36,000/HSK-E40) rpm. The page states a choice of 12000, 15000, 24000 and 36000rpm. The motor is small, 3.7 / 5.5 kW (5.0 / 7.4 hp), which fits small cutters in aluminium, copper, graphite and hardened inserts, not heavy stock removal.

Both ISO30 and ISO40 spindles are offered, and the table notes that both are available on the LV5 and the LV8. Draw bar force is 300 kgf for ISO30 and 600 kgf for ISO40. The 660x410 mm (26.0x16.1 in) table carries 300 kg (661 lb), and the magazine holds 20 tools.

Pinnacle describes the compact body and high-speed capability as suited to machining mass production parts. Castings are Meehanite iron, tempered to relieve stress. The machine fits in 1,700 x 2,250 mm (66.9 x 88.6 in) and runs from 220 V at 15 kVA. The LV8 has the same spindle and speed on a longer 810 mm (31.9 in) X travel.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Built-in spindle listed at 24,000 (36,000/HSK-E40) rpm for the ISO30 taper
  • 36 / 36 / 36 m/min rapids in all three axes
  • Small footprint of 1,700 x 2,250 mm (66.9 x 88.6 in) and a 15 kVA supply
  • Choice of ISO30 or ISO40 spindle on the same machine

Limitations

  • Spindle motor is 3.7 / 5.5 kW (5.0 / 7.4 hp), so roughing capacity is limited
  • Table load is 300 kg (661 lb) on a 660x410 mm (26.0x16.1 in) table
  • The built-in high-speed spindle is listed for ISO30 only; ISO40 stops at 12,000 (15,000) rpm
