Overview

The Pinnacle LV117 opens the wide-base group of LV machines, with 1,140 mm (44.9 in) of X, 710 mm (28.0 in) of Y and 610 mm (24.0 in) of Z. Pinnacle's feature list notes a 4 Slideway on Base design, and the machine weighs 9,000 kg (19,841 lb), well above the LV116 that shares its X travel.

That mass and the wider Y are what the model is for. The 1,300 x 700 mm (51.2 x 27.6 in) table takes 1,000 kg (2,205 lb), and the spindle centre sits 760 mm (29.9 in) from the column.

Two spindle columns appear in the table. ISO40 gives 7.5/11 kW (10.1/14.8 hp) with belt speeds of 40 - 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm or direct drive at 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm. ISO50 gives 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp), a belt range of 40 - 6,000 (8,000) rpm and tools up to Ø127 mm (Ø5.0 in). The tool count follows the taper: 24 (30) for ISO40 and 24 / 32 for ISO50, with a chain-type magazine listed as an option.

Rapid traverse is printed as 24(30) / 24(30) / 24 m/min, so the faster X and Y figure is an alternative to ask about. Floor space is 3,250 x 3,080 mm (128.0 x 121.3 in) and the supply requirement 30 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 710 mm (28.0 in) of Y travel with a 1,300 x 700 mm (51.2 x 27.6 in) table
  • 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) machine on a base with four slideways
  • ISO50 spindle option with 11/15 kW (14.8/20.1 hp) and Ø127 mm (Ø5.0 in) tools
  • Magazine choices of 24 (30) tools on ISO40 and 24 / 32 on ISO50

Limitations

  • Z travel of 610 mm (24.0 in) is no more than the lighter LV116 offers
  • Standard rapids are 24 m/min; the 30 m/min figure is printed in brackets as an alternative
  • Needs 30 kVA and 3,250 x 3,080 mm (128.0 x 121.3 in) of floor

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the LV117 offer over the LV116?

X travel is the same at 1,140 mm (44.9 in). The LV117 adds Y, 710 mm (28.0 in), a table load of 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) and a heavier structure at 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) against the 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) of the LV116.

02 How is the LV117 built?

The major structural parts are Meehanite cast iron, tempered for stress relief. The three axes run on linear guideways, and Pinnacle lists a 4 Slideway on Base layout for this group. The spindle is a cartridge type on P4 class bearings with circulating oil cooling on the spindle head.

03 How many tools does the LV117 carry?

With the ISO40 spindle the table lists 24 (30) tools up to Ø90 (Ø75) mm. With ISO50 it lists 24 / 32 tools up to Ø127 mm (Ø5.0 in), 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 15 kg (33 lb). A chain-type ATC is marked as an option.

04 What spindle speeds are available on the LV117?

ISO40: 40 - 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm belt-driven, or 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm direct-drive. ISO50: 40 - 6,000 (8,000) rpm belt-driven or 10,000 rpm direct-drive. Gear heads with a low and a high range are listed for both tapers.
