Overview
The Palmary OIG-200DE is a CNC internal grinder that also carries an external grinding wheel. Palmary describes it as one internal wheel spindle plus one external wheel spindle, for grinding a bore, an end face and an outer diameter in one setting. Bore capacity is Ø150 mm (5.9 in) and workpiece length 200 mm (7.9 in).
The two spindles are very different machines. The internal one, on the Z axis, is a Ø90 mm (3.5 in) high-frequency type at 10,000 to 50,000 rpm with a 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) motor. The second, on the Y axis, turns at 1,880 or 2,090 rpm for a wheel speed of 30 m/s (5,906 ft/min) and has a 4 kW (5.4 hp) motor: a conventional external wheelhead in miniature. An external grinding wheel with flange is in the standard accessories.
For a part whose bore and outside diameter must run true to each other, such as a bearing sleeve, a gear with a ground journal or a collet body, grinding both in one chucking removes the error of a second setup. That is the reason to choose the DE over the two-internal-spindle OIG-200D.
