Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Weldon AGN4 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Weldon AGN4 is a compact CNC cylindrical grinder for small parts: 7.08 in (180 mm) of swing, 9.84 in (250 mm) between centers and a workpiece limit of 44 lb (20 kg). The whole machine weighs 4,600 lb (2,087 kg) on a cast iron base and measures 58 x 76 x 74 in (1,473 x 1,930 x 1,880 mm) (W x D x H), so it goes into cells and corners where a full-size grinder would not. For scale, the G300 weighs 11,000 or 14,000 lb (4,990 or 6,350 kg) and carries a 10 hp (7.5 kW) wheel motor.
The AGN4's wheel motor is 5 hp (3.7 kW), T.E.F.C., turning a 14 x 2 x 5 in (356 x 51 x 127 mm) wheel (OD x width x ID) on a hydrodynamic spindle bearing at up to 8,800 SFPM. The wheelhead is fixed at 0° or 30°. It does not swivel between the two, so the choice between a straight plunge and an angled approach that reaches a shoulder along with a diameter has to be settled when the machine is specified.
The workhead is a live/dead spindle, variable from 0 to 1,400 rpm on a 1.9 hp (1.4 kW) AC servo motor. Running dead, the part turns on stationary #2 Morse centers at both ends, the usual route to good roundness on pins and small shafts. Running live, the spindle drives a chuck, and the 0.625 in (16 mm) through hole sets what can pass behind it. The tailstock quill moves 1.2 in (30 mm) under air pressure, which keeps part changes quick. Taper correction comes from a swivel adjustment of +/- 1°.
Both axes are short and fast. The worktable travels 14 in (356 mm) with a 640 in/min (16.3 m/min) rapid. The wheelhead travels 6.7 in (170 mm) at up to 320 in/min (8.1 m/min), with programmable feed from 0.00001 to 200 in/min. X and Z each use a 0.6 hp (0.4 kW) AC servo motor under a FANUC 0i-TF Plus control. Site services are modest: 208/240 V, 3-phase, 60 Hz, plus 5 SCFM of air at 80 psi.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Compact and light for a CNC grinder: 58 x 76 x 74 in (1,473 x 1,930 x 1,880 mm) and 4,600 lb (2,087 kg) on a cast iron base
- Live/dead workhead spindle, variable 0-1,400 rpm, so one machine grinds between dead centers or drives a chuck
- Pneumatic tailstock quill with 1.2 in (30 mm) of travel for quick part changes
- Rapids of 640 in/min (16.3 m/min) on the table and 320 in/min (8.1 m/min) on the wheelhead keep idle time short on small parts
- Wheelhead feed is programmable from 0.00001 in/min up to 200 in/min, and the wheel runs on a hydrodynamic spindle bearing
- Runs on 208/240 V, 3-phase power and 5 SCFM of air at 80 psi
Limitations
- Work is limited to 44 lb (20 kg), 7.08 in (180 mm) of swing and 9.84 in (250 mm) between centers
- The wheelhead angle is fixed at 0° or 30°; it is one or the other, not adjustable between jobs
- Swivel taper adjustment is +/- 1°, enough to correct taper but not to set up a steep one
- The 5 hp (3.7 kW) wheel motor is half the 10 hp (7.5 kW) of the G300, which caps stock removal on wider plunges
- The 0.625 in (16 mm) workhead through hole and #2 Morse centers restrict the machine to small workholding

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table lists a maximum work swing of 7.08 in (180 mm), 9.84 in (250 mm) between centers and a maximum workpiece weight of 44 lb (20 kg). Worktable travel is 14 in (356 mm) and wheelhead travel is 6.7 in (170 mm). The grinding wheel is 14 x 2 x 5 in (356 x 51 x 127 mm), outside diameter by width by bore.
02
No. Weldon lists the wheelhead angle as 0° or 30° fixed, so a given machine has one or the other. What can be adjusted is the swivel for taper, by +/- 1°. If your parts need both straight plunges and angled shoulder grinding, raise that with Weldon before ordering.
03
It lets the workhead run two ways. As a dead spindle the #2 Morse center stays still and the part rotates on it, which is the normal method for grinding between centers. As a live spindle the nose itself rotates to drive a chuck. Speed is variable from 0 to 1,400 rpm from a 1.9 hp (1.4 kW) AC servo motor, and the through hole is 0.625 in (16 mm).
04
Electrical supply is 208/240 V, 3-phase, 60 Hz. Compressed air is 5 SCFM at 80 psi, and the tailstock quill is pneumatic, so the air supply is part of normal operation. The machine weighs 4,600 lb (2,087 kg) and occupies 58 x 76 in (1,473 x 1,930 mm) of floor, 74 in (1,880 mm) high.
05
The AGN4 is the smaller machine by a wide margin. Its wheel motor is 5 hp (3.7 kW) against 10 hp (7.5 kW) on the G300, and it weighs 4,600 lb (2,087 kg) against 11,000 or 14,000 lb (4,990 or 6,350 kg). Both use the FANUC 0i-TF Plus control.
