Overview

The OPS Ingersoll GANTRY EAGLE 800 is a gantry die-sinking EDM whose long axis is Y: 850 mm (33.5 in), against 550 mm (21.7 in) in X and 450 mm (17.7 in) in Z. The maker positions it for medium and large workpieces and stresses the ratio of travel to footprint.

It is the first size in the range to show a C-axis torque in the brochure table, 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft). That matters with wide rib electrodes or large orbiting shapes, where the C-axis has to hold position against flushing forces. Head load rises with it, to 200 kg (441 lb), although the limits for electrodes changed on the C-axis stay at 50 kg (110 lb) by hand and 15 kg (33 lb) automatically.

Loading capacity grows faster than travel. The table measures 760 x 1,000 mm (29.9 x 39.4 in) and takes 2,000 kg (4,409 lb), twice the GANTRY EAGLE 500 rating of 1,000 kg (2,205 lb), while X gains very little over that machine's 525 mm (20.7 in). Dielectric volume doubles as well, to 800 l, and the filter unit is 32 m². Tank size is 800 x 1,100 x 480 mm (31.5 x 43.3 x 18.9 in), filling to 450 mm (17.7 in).

Electrically the machine asks for no more than the small frames: 16 kVA, 32 A, 400 V / 50 Hz. The standard generator is the PowerTEC PT60 at 60 A with 110 A optional. Buyers who want the PowerSPARK generator on this frame size should look at the EAGLE G80 Competition, which has the same travels.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • C-axis torque of 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft) and a 200 kg (441 lb) head load for large electrodes
  • 850 mm (33.5 in) of Y travel with a 760 x 1,000 mm (29.9 x 39.4 in) table
  • Table load capacity of 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) for medium and large mould halves
  • 800 l of dielectric and a 32 m² filter unit
  • Runs on a 16 kVA, 32 A supply, like the smaller frames in the range

Limitations

  • X travel is 550 mm (21.7 in), barely more than the GANTRY EAGLE 500 at 525 mm (20.7 in)
  • Automatic electrode changes remain limited to 15 kg (33 lb), whatever the head can carry
  • Z travel of 450 mm (17.7 in) is no greater than on the GANTRY EAGLE 500
  • The standard electrode changer still holds 20 positions; a 30 position unit is the only listed upgrade
06

Best For

Long mould plates and slides up to 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) Large rib and orbiting electrodes that load the C-axis Medium and large workpieces where floor space is tight Multi-cavity plates burned along the 850 mm (33.5 in) Y axis

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What workpiece weight can the GANTRY EAGLE 800 carry?

The work table is rated for 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) on a surface of 760 x 1,000 mm (29.9 x 39.4 in). The tank around it is 800 x 1,100 x 480 mm (31.5 x 43.3 x 18.9 in), and the dielectric can be raised to 450 mm (17.7 in) under program control.

02 What is the C-axis specification of the GANTRY EAGLE 800?

The integrated C-axis turns 360°, runs at an adjustable 1-20 rpm and positions to 0.001°. The brochure lists a torque of 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft). It accepts electrodes up to 50 kg (110 lb) when changed manually and 15 kg (33 lb) when changed automatically, both given as maximum values.

03 How does the GANTRY EAGLE 800 differ from the GANTRY EAGLE 1200?

The GANTRY EAGLE 1200 is a much larger machine, with 1,010 mm (39.8 in) of X and a 7,500 kg (16,534 lb) table load, a linear electrode magazine and an 18 kVA supply. The GANTRY EAGLE 800 stays with the rotary-disc changer and 16 kVA, and fits work that is long in one direction only.

04 Which generator and options are listed for the GANTRY EAGLE 800?

Standard is the EAGLE PowerTEC fine finish generator PT60, an adaptive-current type with 60 A maximum machining current. Options include a 110 A generator, a technology package for fine finish and carbide machining and a 30 position electrode changer.
