Overview
The Onsrud F98HM is the smaller of two HM-Series hybrid mills: a fully enclosed machine with twin tables of 60 in (1,524 mm) by 48 in (1,220 mm) each, a 40 in (1,016 mm) Z-stroke and a 33 hp (24.6 kW), 24,000 rpm spindle. Onsrud lists it with its 5-axis mills.
Hybrid is the maker's word for a machine that has the torque for metal without giving up the speed needed for aluminum and composites. That is why the series offers two spindles of very different character: the standard 33 hp unit at 24,000 rpm and a 75 hp (55.9 kW) unit at 18,000 rpm.
It is equipped like a machining center. Twenty-four tools are standard. Flood coolant, MQL, through-spindle coolant or cold air blast can be fitted, and chips go to an under-floor management system inside the enclosure. Part holding can be a vacuum table, T-slots, custom bolt patterns or steel slab tables.
The twin tables run pendulum fashion or, with the optional second spindle, both at once. The machine is 204 in (5,182 mm) long, 301 in (7,646 mm) wide and 187 in (4,750 mm) high. Onsrud's table gives no vacuum zone count for this series, which fits a machine where much of the work is bolted down.
