Onsrud 145G 5-Axis — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Onsrud 145G 5-Axis that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Onsrud or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Onsrud 145G 5-Axis puts a tilting, rotating head on the shortest five-foot-wide table of the G-Series 5-Axis line. The table is 145 in (3,683 mm) in X by 61 in (1,550 mm) in Y, and the Z-stroke is short: 16 in (406 mm) or 18 in (457 mm), depending on which block of Onsrud's table the machine is ordered from.

Those strokes define the work. With the head tilted over, part of the stroke is used up by the head itself, so this is a machine for panels and shallow formed parts. It cuts bevelled edges, angled holes and trimmed outlines in one setup. It is not a machine for deep moulds. Onsrud's point about 5-axis work, that the workpiece is set up once and machined from all directions, applies here to parts a few inches tall.

The frame figures match the 3-axis 145G. With 16 in of Z the machine is 239 in (6,071 mm) long and 103 in (2,617 mm) high. With 18 in it is 235 in (5,969 mm) long and 140 in (3,556 mm) high, and 136 in (3,455 mm) wide in both cases. Three vacuum zones are standard.

The spindle is 18 hp (13.4 kW) at 24,000 rpm, with 33 hp (24.6 kW) as the upgrade, and the standard tool capacity is 12. Onsrud suggests a second 12-position rotary tool changer for this series.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 5-axis head on a compact 145 in (3,683 mm) by 61 in (1,550 mm) table
  • Low machine height of 103 in (2,617 mm) with the 16 in (406 mm) stroke
  • 33 hp (24.6 kW) spindle available
  • Second 12-position rotary tool changer offered

Limitations

  • Z-stroke of 16 in (406 mm) or 18 in (457 mm) limits part height
  • Only 3 vacuum zones as standard
  • The 18 in version stands 140 in (3,556 mm) high for two more inches of stroke

Best For

Bevelled and angle-drilled panels up to twelve feet Trimming shallow composite and plastic parts Shops moving from 3-axis nesting to 5-axis edge work

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How tall a part can the Onsrud 145G 5-Axis machine?

The Z-stroke is 16 in (406 mm) or 18 in (457 mm). Usable part height is lower than that, because tool length and the tilted head take up part of the stroke. Onsrud's table does not give a clearance figure, so ask for one.

02 What is the difference between the 16 in and 18 in versions of the 145G 5-Axis?

The table is the same, 145 in (3,683 mm) by 61 in (1,550 mm). The 16 in machine is 239 in (6,071 mm) long and 103 in (2,617 mm) high. The 18 in machine is 235 in (5,969 mm) long and 140 in (3,556 mm) high. Both are 136 in (3,455 mm) wide.

03 Is the 145G 5-Axis the same frame as the 3-axis 145G?

The table and machine dimensions in Onsrud's two tables are identical. What differs is the head, the Z-strokes offered and the spindle upgrade, which is 33 hp (24.6 kW) on the 5-axis machine.

04 Which materials is the 145G 5-Axis meant for?

Onsrud says the G-Series 5-Axis is built to handle composites, aluminum, foam and wood. The standard 18 hp (13.4 kW) spindle runs to 24,000 rpm, a speed range suited to routing those materials with small and medium tools.
