How much does the Onsrud 96GW8 5-Axis cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Onsrud 96GW8 5-Axis that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Onsrud 96GW8 5-Axis has a square table, 96 in (2,439 mm) by 96 in (2,439 mm), under a 40 in (1,016 mm) Z-stroke. It is the smallest machine in the 40 in block of Onsrud's G-Series 5-Axis table, and the only square table in the series chart.
Eight feet square and forty inches deep is close to a cube. That is the shape of the work, too. Engine cowlings, seat moulds, helmet and canopy tools, architectural models, large foam sculptures and patterns for castings are roughly as tall as they are wide. On a long gantry router such parts waste the bed. Here the bed is no longer than it needs to be.
The frame is not small. A gantry tall enough for 40 in of stroke makes the machine 167 in (4,242 mm) high, and it is 227 in (5,766 mm) long and 172 in (4,369 mm) wide. The length is more than twice the table, which shows how much room the gantry and its travel need at each end.
Three vacuum zones are standard. The spindle is 18 hp (13.4 kW) at 24,000 rpm, with a 33 hp (24.6 kW) option, and tool capacity is 12. Tall parts cut with long tools put the tool tip far from the spindle bearings, so tool measurement, which Onsrud offers, is worth including.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table is 96 in (2,439 mm) in X by 96 in (2,439 mm) in Y and the Z-stroke is 40 in (1,016 mm). Axis travels are not in Onsrud's table. The space a part can occupy is smaller than the table, since the head works around it.
02
The machine is 227 in (5,766 mm) long, 172 in (4,369 mm) wide and 167 in (4,242 mm) high. For a table of 96 in (2,439 mm) by 96 in (2,439 mm) that is a large frame, and the height is the figure that usually decides whether it fits.
03
They share a frame length and width. The 120GW8 5-Axis has a 28 in stroke, a table X of 120 in (3,048 mm) and a height of 155 in (3,937 mm). The 96GW8 5-Axis has a 40 in stroke, 96 in (2,439 mm) of table X and a height of 167 in (4,242 mm).
04
For a shop making moulds, plugs and patterns under about six feet across, the envelope fits well. For sheet and panel work it is the wrong shape: the table is short and the tall gantry adds nothing to flat parts.
