Onsrud 97A — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Onsrud 97A that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Onsrud or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Onsrud 97A is the smaller of the two A-Series tables: a 3-axis CNC router with a table of 97 in (2,464 mm) by 49 in (1,245 mm), a 6 hp (4.5 kW) spindle that runs to 24,000 rpm and an 8 in (203 mm) Z-stroke. Onsrud describes the A-Series as its small-footprint machine that covers the essential functions, and the figures bear that out. The whole machine measures 170 in (4,318 mm) long, 90 in (2,286 mm) wide and 83 in (2,108 mm) high.

Spindle power sets the limits here. 6 hp is enough for wood, foam, plastic and ACM, the materials Onsrud names for the series, at feed rates the maker lists as programmable up to 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min). It is not a spindle for deep single-pass cuts in dense stock, and the 8 in Z-stroke keeps the work to sheet and shallow fixtures.

The table carries 2 vacuum zones as standard. An automatic tool changer is not part of the base machine: Onsrud lists it as an option in 10- or 12-position configurations. The series can be connected to single-phase or three-phase power, which matters for a small shop without a three-phase service, though the maker notes that some options need three-phase.

The 145A is the same machine with a longer and wider table and a third vacuum zone.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Footprint of 170 in (4,318 mm) by 90 in (2,286 mm) for a table that takes a 97 in (2,464 mm) by 49 in (1,245 mm) sheet
  • Available with single-phase or three-phase electrical connection
  • Programmable feed rates up to 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min) with a 24,000 rpm spindle
  • 2 vacuum zones as standard, so half the table can be held while the other half is open

Limitations

  • The 6 hp (4.5 kW) spindle is the only power listed for the series, with no upgrade shown
  • An automatic tool changer is an option, not standard equipment
  • Z-stroke is 8 in (203 mm), the shortest in the maker's router range
  • Onsrud states that some options are only available with three-phase power

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size sheet does the Onsrud 97A take?

The table is 97 in (2,464 mm) in X and 49 in (1,245 mm) in Y, with 2 vacuum zones as standard. The 145A is the larger A-Series table at 145 in (3,683 mm) by 61 in (1,549 mm) with 3 zones.

02 Does the 97A come with a tool changer?

Not as standard. Onsrud lists an optional automatic tool changer in 10- or 12-position configurations, and says the 12-position version is available on its larger A-Series tables. Budget for the changer separately if the work needs more than one tool per program.

03 What power supply does the 97A need?

The A-Series is available with a single-phase or a three-phase electrical connection. Onsrud adds that some options are only available with three-phase power, so settle the option list before the electrical work is planned.

04 How much floor space does the 97A need?

The machine itself is 170 in (4,318 mm) long, 90 in (2,286 mm) wide and 83 in (2,108 mm) high. Those are machine dimensions only: allow room around it for loading sheets, the vacuum pump and dust collection.
