Onsrud 122C 5-Axis — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Onsrud 122C 5-Axis that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Onsrud or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Two 60 in (1,524 mm) square tables and a 5-axis head make up the Onsrud 122C 5-Axis, the middle model of the C-Series 5-Axis range. Onsrud calls the series a fixed-bridge machining center for dense materials and files it with its 5-axis routers.

As with the other sizes, there is a standard machine and a Z-Ram machine. The standard one has a 16 in (406 mm) Z-stroke and is 138 in (3,506 mm) high, 133 in (3,379 mm) long and 242 in (6,147 mm) wide. The Z-Ram is 129 in (3,277 mm) long and 248 in (6,300 mm) wide, and 146 in (3,709 mm) or 166 in (4,217 mm) high for its 28 in (711 mm) and 40 in (1,016 mm) strokes.

Note the standard height. The smaller 98C 5-Axis is listed at 100 in (2,540 mm) in the same row of Onsrud's table, although both have the same stroke. The maker does not explain the jump, so it is worth a question before the building is checked against it.

Equipment is the series standard: 12 tools, with larger changers and a second changer optional, and 2 vacuum zones. Continuous C, which keeps the head from having to unwind, is an option Onsrud highlights for cycle time. A second spindle can be fitted.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Twin 60 in (1,524 mm) square tables for 5-axis pendulum work
  • Choice of 16 in (406 mm) standard Z or Z-Ram with 28 in (711 mm) or 40 in (1,016 mm)
  • Continuous C option avoids unwinding the head
  • Second spindle and second tool changer listed

Limitations

  • Up to 248 in (6,300 mm) wide in Z-Ram form
  • Spindle rating is not stated consistently by the maker
  • Only 2 vacuum zones as standard

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the table sizes of the Onsrud 122C 5-Axis?

Two tables of 60 in (1,524 mm) by 60 in (1,524 mm), which Onsrud names X and U. There are 2 vacuum zones as standard, one for each table.

02 How do the standard and Z-Ram versions differ?

The standard machine has a 16 in (406 mm) Z-stroke and is 138 in (3,506 mm) high and 242 in (6,147 mm) wide. The Z-Ram is 248 in (6,300 mm) wide and 146 in (3,709 mm) or 166 in (4,217 mm) high, for 28 in (711 mm) or 40 in (1,016 mm) of Z.

03 What is continuous C on this machine?

An option that lets the C-axis rotate without limit. Onsrud explains that it keeps the spindle rotating without having to unwind, which reduces cycle times on parts machined all the way round.

04 How many tools does the 122C 5-Axis hold?

12 as standard. Larger capacity tool changers are optional, and Onsrud describes adding an additional 12-position ATC so more tools are within reach for quick tool changes.
