Overview

The Citizen Cincom R04-VI is the sixth-generation evolution of Citizen's micro-precision Swiss-type automatic lathe for parts up to 4mm diameter. The R04 platform has long been the go-to micro Swiss machine for watch components, micro-medical devices, electronic contacts, and precision instrument parts in the 1-4mm range. The VI generation refines the platform with improved spindle accuracy, enhanced thermal stability, and updated servo technology.

Both main and back spindles reach 20,000 RPM, the highest speeds in the Cincom range. At 4mm diameter, 20,000 RPM delivers approximately 251 m/min surface speed, aggressive enough for productive cycle times in brass, aluminum, and free-machining steels. The main spindle bore is 10mm, and maximum machining length reaches 40mm with the fixed guide bushing or 30mm with the rotary guide bushing. The back spindle accepts workpieces up to 4mm with 10mm protrusion.

The R04-VI carries 17 tool positions including rotary tools at 8,000 RPM for cross-drilling, micro-milling, and off-center feature machining. Front drilling capacity reaches 3mm with M3 tapping, and the back spindle provides 3mm drilling with M3 tapping. Rapid feed rates reach 30 m/min across all axes.

At 1,100 kg with just 3.4 kVA rated power consumption (1.6 kVA average) and a center height of 1,000 mm, the R04-VI maintains the ultra-compact, energy-efficient footprint that characterizes the R-series. The 4mm capacity provides significantly more versatility than the R01-VI's 1mm limit while maintaining identical spindle speeds and machine dynamics.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does a Citizen Cincom R04-VI cost?

A new R04-VI typically costs $90,000-$160,000. The more commonly specified R-series machine due to its broader 4mm capacity.

02 Fixed vs rotary guide bushing on the R04-VI?

Fixed provides maximum rigidity with 40mm machining length. Rotary rotates with the workpiece for C-axis interpolation but limits to 30mm.

03 R04-VI vs Tornos SwissNano?

Both target micro Swiss. Choice comes down to regional dealer support and control preference (Citizen Mitsubishi Meldas vs Tornos FANUC).

04 Can the R04-VI run unattended?

Yes with compatible micro bar feeder, but micro-machining requires more frequent quality checks than larger Swiss turning.
