Overview

The Fryer HR-70 is a large fixed spindle horizontal machining center: 70 x 55 in (1,778 x 1,397 mm) of X and Y travel, 36 in (914 mm) of Z and a 36 x 80 in (914 x 2,032 mm) table rated 10,000 lb (4,536 kg). It weighs 36,000 lb (16,330 kg), twice the HR-40, and its 55 in of vertical travel is nearly double as well.

That Y stroke is the reason to look at this model. Spindle center to table top runs from 6 to 61 in (152 - 1,549 mm), so the spindle can reach the top of a tall weldment, a gearbox case or a valve body standing on the table. An extended 46 in (1,168 mm) Z travel is on the options sheet for the HB/HR-70 and increases spindle nose to table center to 53".

Two rotary tables are offered for this size only. One is a 36" built-in 4th axis table, flush mounted in the 36" x 80" machine table. The other is a rectangular 60" x 48" rotating table. Both are listed with full contouring, 12 arc/sec accuracy and 10,000 lbs capacity. The rectangular table suits frames and plates that would overhang a round platter.

The 50 taper spindle gives 306 ft-lb (415 Nm) at 350 rpm with 40 hp (29.8 kW) peak, moved by 2.18 in (55 mm) ballscrews with 7,500 lb of peak axis thrust. Rapids are 750 ipm (19.1 m/min). Plan for 180 x 150 in (4,572 x 3,810 mm) of floor and 145 in (3,683 mm) of height.
